SHINE Technologies is seeking a Controller who will be a senior finance leader responsible for the operational backbone of SHINE's financial infrastructure. This role owns the end-to-end execution of financial close and reporting, finance shared services, and the transactional accounting functions that support every aspect of the business.
This is a high-impact, highly visible leadership role for a seasoned operational finance leader who thrives in complex, dynamic environments and brings equal rigor to process excellence, controls, and team development. The Controller partners closely with the CFO, FP&A, legal, and operational leadership to ensure SHINE's financial operations scale effectively as the company grows.
The base salary range for this position is $190,000 - $215,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Close & Reporting
- Own and drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of results
- Maintain and continuously improve close calendars, checklists, and controls to reduce cycle time without compromising quality
- Serve as the primary owner of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policy framework; partner with the technical accounting function on policy application and any complex or non-routine transactions
- Provide clean, well-controlled books as the foundation for financial reporting, consolidations, and external audit — partnering closely with the SEC reporting and technical accounting function on deliverables above the close
- Support financial reporting inputs for debt covenants, government contracts, and grant-related compliance as applicable
Finance Shared Services
- Lead and develop a high-performing shared services organization encompassing source-to-pay (S2P), order-to-cash (O2C), payroll, travel & expense (T&E), and related transactional functions
- Establish and monitor service-level expectations for each shared services function, driving accountability and operational consistency across the team
- Design and implement scalable processes and systems that support SHINE's growth, including ERP optimization, automation, and workflow improvements
- Ensure clear ownership and documentation of processes within each shared services domain; identify and close gaps in coverage, controls, and escalation paths
Source-to-Pay
- Oversee accounts payable, procurement support, and vendor master management to ensure timely, accurate, and controlled payment of obligations
- Partner with procurement and operations to align purchase order workflows, three-way match controls, and accrual processes
- Manage vendor relationships as they relate to payment terms, dispute resolution, and compliance with SHINE's vendor code of conduct
- Drive continuous improvement in S2P cycle times, cash management, and early payment discount capture
Order-to-Cash
- Oversee billing, accounts receivable, cash application, and collections for SHINE's diverse revenue streams, including isotope sales, government contracts, and licensing arrangements
- Ensure billing accuracy and timeliness across customer types and contract structures, including milestone-based and cost-reimbursable contracts
- Manage DSO performance and cash forecasting inputs; coordinate with commercial teams on customer credit and collections strategy
- Maintain strong internal controls over the billing and cash application process; coordinate with the technical accounting function on revenue recognition policy and application
Payroll
- Own end-to-end payroll operations for a growing workforce, including salaried, hourly, and executive payroll cycles.
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements across all jurisdictions in which SHINE operates
- Partner with HR on compensation changes, new hire onboarding, benefits deductions, and equity award administration
- Oversee payroll system health, vendor relationships, and year-end processes including W-2 issuance and ACA reporting
Travel & Expense
- Manage the T & E program including policy ownership, system administration, and compliance monitoring.
- Drive adoption of SHINE's expense management platform; identify and address patterns of non-compliance or policy exception
- Reconcile corporate card activity and ensure timely reimbursement cycles with appropriate substantiation
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Own the execution of internal controls across the Controller's functional scope — including close, S2P, O2C, payroll, and T&E — ensuring controls are consistently performed, evidenced, and escalated when exceptions arise
- Serve as the primary operator of transactional and process-level controls; partner with the technical accounting and SEC reporting function, which owns control framework design, documentation, and testing
- Respond promptly to control deficiencies or gaps identified through testing or audit; drive remediation within the Controller's domain and track resolution to closure
- Instill a controls-first mindset within the shared services team — ensuring staff understand not just what they do, but why the control exists and what good execution looks like
- Coordinate with legal, compliance, and operations on government contracting requirements (e.g., FAR/DFARS compliance, cost accounting standards) where applicable
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- Active CPA license required.
- Minimum 12–15 years of progressive accounting experience, including demonstrated progression into controllership or senior accounting leadership
- Prior experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller in a company with revenue of $100M or greater required
- Experience managing a finance shared services organization, including Source-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, and Payroll functions required
- Experience owning the end-to-end financial close process, including close calendar management, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables
- Strong working knowledge of internal controls design and execution; experience operating controls in a SOX or SOX-readiness environment preferred
- Experience supporting an external audit as the primary controller-level liaison
- Pre-IPO or public company experience strongly preferred; experience supporting a company through a public offering or registration process a plus
- Experience with government contracting, cost accounting standards (CAS), or FAR/DFARS compliance preferred given SHINE's contract revenue streams

- Ability to move within facility environments.
- Ability to handle standard office equipment and materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Work is primarily performed in a standard office or hybrid environment.
- Although flexible work hours may be available, extended hours will sometimes be necessary to meet reporting deadlines.
