Client Support Specialist
Description

Position: 32 hours weekly, graveyard shift. Shift differential for working graveyard shifts.



The primary responsibility of the Client Support Specialist is for the safety, welfare, and comfort of the clients. The Client Support Specialist works under the overall direction of the Director of Client Support Services. The Client Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery within an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation setting. This position provides compassionate, hands-on care while helping create a safe, respectful, and healing environment for clients overcoming substance use disorders.

  • Provide compassionate, respectful supervision and support to clients throughout their recovery journey in a structured residential setting.
  • Foster a safe, positive, and therapeutic environment that promotes healing, accountability, and personal growth.
  • Build supportive, professional relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Assist clients with daily structure, including schedules, group participation, and recovery-focused activities.
  • Monitor client well-being and promptly communicate any concerns, behavioral changes, or potential relapse indicators to clinical and/or medical staff and supervisor.
  • Conduct room searches and belongings checks per policy with professionalism and respect, ensuring a safe, substance-free environment.
  • Perform and document drug screenings, including urinalysis (UA), in accordance with program standards.
  • Perform and document vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, blood glucose) and substance abuse screeners (CIWAS, AWS, COWS).
  • Support safe medication administration by following the “Six Rights” during medication passes.
  • Coordinate with pharmacies and healthcare providers to ensure clients receive appropriate medications and care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation to support continuity of care.
  • Compile an end of shift report to rely to oncoming team members during shift change.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating medical appointments as needed; same day clinic, eye exams, dental.
  • Serve as a positive role model for both clients and team members, contributing to a culture of respect, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Support and mentor new staff, helping maintain consistency in quality care.
  • Ability to transport clients to appointments and recovery-related services.


Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; experience in behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, or healthcare preferred.
  • Must obtain Medication Pass Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with others. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and general computer systems, with the ability to learn and maintain Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and machinery, including a computer, printer, photocopier, facsimile machine, and telephone.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position including walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, and repetitive motions.
  • If in recovery from a Substance Use Disorder, must have a minimum of two (2) years of sobriety from substances of use.  
  • Must pass pre-hire requirements including a criminal background check, urinalysis (UA), and TB test.
  • Must obtain CPR certification within ninety (90) days of hire.
