The Cruiser and Destroyer AEGIS Combat Systems SME (CRUDES C/S SME) provides technical leadership, operational oversight, and maintenance support for Navy AEGIS combat systems, radar systems, weapons systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and shipboard communications networks aboard surface warships and military auxiliary vessels. This position serves as a principal subject matter expert responsible for supporting fleet readiness, combat systems integration, maintenance execution, operational performance, and lifecycle sustainment activities.
The CRUDES C/S SME supports maintenance and operational teams responsible for AEGIS Combat Systems operations, Navy sonar systems, radar systems, missile systems, and electronic warfare systems. The position provides technical guidance to government personnel, shipboard operators, maintenance organizations, and program stakeholders supporting Navy fleet readiness and mission execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise technical efforts supporting AEGIS Combat Systems operations, maintenance activities, engineering analyses, and readiness initiatives.
- Serve as senior technical advisor for AEGIS Combat Systems maintenance, integration, and operational support.
- Provide technical expertise for Navy sonar systems, Vertical Launching System (VLS), Close-In Weapon System (CIWS), Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) systems, and SPY radar systems.
- Support planning, execution, and oversight of organizational-level and depot-level maintenance activities involving combat systems and associated shipboard interfaces.
- Provide technical expertise for Navy network and communications systems, supporting infrastructure, and integrated shipboard systems.
- Support operational readiness assessments, troubleshooting efforts, maintenance planning, casualty response, and systems integration activities.
- Provide technical support for Navy electronic warfare and countermeasure systems currently employed within the Fleet.
- Coordinate with ship’s force personnel, maintenance activities, government representatives, and operational commands to resolve technical and operational issues.
- Analyze combat systems performance data, maintenance trends, readiness reports, and casualty information to identify improvement opportunities and support mission readiness.
- Ensure compliance with Navy combat systems maintenance procedures, operational standards, engineering requirements, and safety policies.
- Prepare technical reports, maintenance assessments, readiness evaluations, and systems status updates for leadership review.
- Support modernization efforts, lifecycle sustainment initiatives, and integrated fleet readiness operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of twenty (20) years of experience with the technical aspects of operations and maintenance of the AEGIS Combat Systems Suite.
- Experience level comparable to that of an AEGIS Combat Systems Maintenance Manager (CSMM).
- Direct operational and maintenance experience supporting:
* AEGIS Combat Systems Suite,
* Navy sonar systems,
* Vertical Launching System (VLS),
* Close-In Weapon System (CIWS),
* Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) systems, and
* SPY radar systems.
- Extensive experience with the technical aspects of operations and maintenance of Navy network and communications systems, supporting infrastructure, and associated shipboard interfaces.
- Direct operational and maintenance experience, within the last five (5) years, supporting Navy electronic warfare and countermeasure systems currently employed within the Fleet.
- Extensive knowledge of Navy combat systems maintenance processes, systems integration, operational readiness requirements, and lifecycle sustainment practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively interface with senior military leadership, civilian personnel, maintenance organizations, and technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting fleet readiness training, maintenance assessments, modernization initiatives, or lifecycle sustainment programs.
- Experience supporting shipyard maintenance, waterfront operations, or combat systems modernization activities.
- Familiarity with Navy maintenance databases, combat systems documentation systems, readiness reporting tools, and technical assessment processes.
- Experience supporting integrated combat systems maintenance teams or fleet technical assistance organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
Work Environment
- Work may be performed in office environments, shipboard locations, waterfront operations areas, maintenance facilities, or shipyards.
- Position may require travel to fleet concentration areas, operational commands, maintenance facilities, and shipboard locations in support of inspections, maintenance activities, and operational readiness efforts.
Security Clearance
- Active DoD security clearance (Secret or higher) required.
