The Role
Capstone is seeking a talented Visual Designer I to help shape the future of our fast-growing PebbleGo Suite. In this role, you’ll bring creativity, strong visual storytelling, and user-centered thinking to the design and enhancement of Capstone’s digital products, websites, and learning experiences for K–5 students, educators, and librarians.
You’ll collaborate closely with Product Design, Product Management, Content, and Engineering teams to create accessible, engaging, and impactful experiences that support literacy development and spark curiosity in young learners. Building on Capstone’s trusted educational content, you’ll help evolve the visual direction of our products through UI design, graphic assets, brand development, visual guidelines, illustration, animation, and video support as needed.
This role is ideal for a versatile designer with 1–3 years of professional experience who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoys solving creative challenges. The ideal candidate combines strong visual design fundamentals with strategic thinking, attention to detail, and a passion for education and digital learning.
Our preference is for this role to be hybrid, based out of our Eden Prairie, MN location.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Visual & UI Design
- Collaborate with creative leaders, UX designers, product managers, researchers, and developers to create visually engaging and user-centered digital experiences.
- Design polished user interface assets for web and mobile applications, including layouts, icons, illustrations, and interactive components.
- Translate wireframes and UX concepts into high-fidelity visual designs that align with brand guidelines and usability standards.
- Contribute to product storytelling through visual hierarchy, motion, and interaction design.
Design Systems & Brand Consistency
- Contribute to and maintain scalable design systems, UI libraries, and visual style guides.
- Ensure consistency across products by applying typography, color, spacing, and accessibility best practices.
- Incorporate accessibility standards (WCAG) into visual and interface design decisions.
Collaboration & Product Development
- Support prototyping efforts to communicate interaction behaviors and visual direction.
- Work closely with UX leads and front-end teams to ensure design feasibility and accurate implementation.
- Participate in design critiques and iterative feedback sessions to refine and improve user experiences.
- Support optimization of designs for responsiveness across desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms.
Project Management & Continuous Improvement
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while balancing creativity, quality, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education, Experience, and Skills desired:
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Illustration, Digital Media, UI Design, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience will also be considered.
- 1–3 years of professional experience in visual design, digital design, or creative production.
- Experience designing for digital products, marketing campaigns, or web-based platforms.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, illustration, typography, motion graphics, color theory, composition, layout, and branding skills.
- Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams including UX, marketing, product, and development teams.
- Experience working in education, EdTech, publishing, or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere, and Firefly).
- Proficiency in Figma with the use of libraries and collaborative design workflows.
- Familiarity with UI design systems and component-based design practices.
- Knowledge of responsive design and accessibility best practices.
- Ability to translate concepts and requirements into polished visual solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality, consistent design work.
- Curiosity about emerging design trends, digital experiences, and creative technologies.
Travel Requirements
5-10% travel may be required.

The pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are surrounding compensation including but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, work location, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $50,000-$65,000.
