Job Summary
The Director of Personal Insurance supports UNICO’s growth and strategic vision. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, operations, and an understanding of sales enablement. Additionally, the role will include serving as an internal champion focused on ongoing communication with the sales and client service teams to drive sales strategy, client support efforts, and revenue growth. The Director of Personal Insurance provides financial, analytic, and marketing support to the team. This position will partner with the Chief Operating Officer, UNICO Directors, and agency leaders to set and achieve targeted Personal Insurance business results.
Responsibilities
Lead | Manage | Accountable:
- Recruits, develops, and leads the Personal Insurance sales and client service team.
- Set clear objectives and performance expectations for the team aligned with organizational goals.
- Design and execute development plans to align team members’ skills with future organizational needs and career aspirations.
- Conduct regular performance meetings and provide coaching to enhance team effectiveness and individual development.
- Promote effective communication upward, horizontally, and downward within the team and across the organization.
- Cultivate a cohesive team environment that values collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect.
- Focus on enhancing business and technical acumen, as well as strategic and critical thinking skills, within the team.
- Liaise with carriers and vendor partners in collaboration with operations and executive leaders.
- Report regularly to the Chief Operating Officer on team performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Financial Performance
- Responsible for obtaining and achieving set revenue and profitability targets.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), quarterly rocks, and scorecards to track team performance and impact on organizational goals.
- Monitors financial and production results to ensure accuracy, assess impact, and identify opportunities for improving business results.
- Assists Chief Operating Officer in developing and monitoring budget, including production, expenses, and staffing plan.
- Analyzes and identifies opportunities for improving expenses.
Project Management
- Champion initiatives to enhance team dynamics and organizational synergy.
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes to support overall company growth and success.
- Systematically identifies problems and evaluates alternative solutions.
- Establishes procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives.
- Optimize workflows to maximize efficiency and maintain a high quality of work.
- Assists team in developing and implementing marketing strategies to achieve positive business results.
- Manages multiple projects/tasks at once for timely and quality results.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Process Ownership and Optimization
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize service delivery and efficiency.
- Continuously evaluate processes and workflows to streamline operations and enhance service quality.
- Take ownership of operational processes within the Personal Insurance department.
- Continuously optimize workflows to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Implement best practices and standards to ensure consistent service delivery and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with IT and other relevant departments to evaluate, select, and integrate innovative technologies.
New Business Production and Client Retention
- Personally, services and maintains a modest book of existing accounts.
- Be a subject matter expert on personal lines insurance programs, market trends, underwriting, risk exposures, and claims.
- Lead the service delivery and relationship management for a defined book of business.
- Ensure high quality service delivery and responsiveness to client needs.
- Drive client retention and satisfaction through proactive communication and strategic account management.
- Produce and help new clients and prospective clients place insurance
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in sales operations functions. Minimum of 2 years of management experience. Thorough knowledge of financial reporting structure and reporting systems. Understanding of the Property-Casualty business, Personal Lines, and the Independent Agency system. Thorough Personal Insurance product knowledge. In-depth understanding of insurance business financials.
- Licensure: Current P&C insurance license, or willingness and ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Personal Insurance business experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word applications.
- Knowledge of Personal Lines systems preferred.
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to draw conclusions from analysis and make initial recommendations.
- Effective communication skills and advanced ability to present ideas and concepts (orally and written) to management, customers, and other stakeholders, to influence outcomes.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Business acumen with Sales and Marketing knowledge.
- Advanced ability to effectively negotiate with business partners while building/maintaining long-term relationships.
- Advanced ability to plan and manage a project through implementation, involving coordination with various business units.
- Advanced ability to manage multiple projects at one time and meet established deadlines.
Physical Demands
- This role’s physical exertion is sedentary and within an office environment.
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Substantial movements and repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
