Entry-Level Metal Fabricator / Body Shop Technician

PBS Body Shop is seeking a dependable Entry-Level Metal Fabricator / Body Shop Technician to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with structural and cosmetic body repairs on school buses while learning DOT safety standards. 
  • Support fabrication, repair, and replacement of structural components such as crossmembers, panels, flooring, and door parts. 
  • Learn and assist with MIG welding, cutting, grinding, and basic metal fabrication tasks. 
  • Help with rust repair, corrosion treatment, and preventative maintenance. 
  • Assist in inspecting vehicle damage and learning proper repair methods. 
  • Learn to read and interpret repair orders, estimates, SOPs, and work instructions. 
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment under supervision. 
  • Document work performed and communicate progress with lead technicians or management. 
  • Work with the maintenance team to help ensure timely repairs and vehicle readiness. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. 
  • Perform other shop duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn fabrication, welding, or body repair skills. 
  • Interest in MIG welding and metal work (training provided). 
  • Ability to follow directions and safety procedures. 
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Valid driver’s license required. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational interest preferred. 
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various physical positions throughout the day. 

Preferred (but not required):

  • Any exposure to welding, automotive repair, construction, or shop environments. 
  • Experience working with tools or mechanical systems. 
  • Interest in growing into a full Body Shop Technician role.

Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM 
  • Summer Hours: Monday–Thursday | 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Requirements

  Requirements:

  • Experience: experience preferred as a body shop technician, with specific expertise in welding and fabricating.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in welding, fabrication, and collision repair are preferred.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of DOT standards and regulations.
  • Skills: Proficient in welding, metal fabrication, and the use of body shop tools and equipment.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure precision in repairs and modifications.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and standing for extended periods.
  • Team Player: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with other team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and repair complex issues.
