About the Role
Jackson’s Hardware is Marin County’s leading independent hardware store - and one of the few 100% employee-owned businesses in the region. Our Rental & Repair Sales Associates are the face of our Rental &Repair Department, helping customers get the right equipment, get trained on how to use it, and get it back in great shape. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that requires both product knowledge and genuine ownership of the rental process from start to finish.
What You’ll Do
Rental Counter
• Manage the full rental process: agreements, deposits, check-out, and return
• Walk customers through proper operation of outdoor equipment, including what accessories, batteries, and chargers are included
• Inspect returned equipment for damage or wear and document condition accurately
• Maintain rental inventory and ensure equipment is clean, functional, and ready for the next customer
• Intake customer repair orders and communicate clearly with the mechanics team
Sales Floor
• Assist customers on the floor with product selection and recommendations
• Process counter sales using our POS system
• Answer customer calls and handle inquiries professionally
• Stock and merchandise the sales floor
What We’re Looking For
• Experience with hand and power tools or outdoor equipment (preferred, but we will train the right candidate)
• Landscaping experience is a plus given the nature of our rental inventory
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
• Ability to explain how equipment works clearly and confidently to customers of all experience levels
• Excellent customer service is a must - you’re the face of the rental counter and the standard here is high
• Good written and verbal communication
• Basic computer proficiency
• Ability to stand and move for the majority of a shift
• Ability to lift 25–60 lbs.
Schedule
Full-time, 5 days/week, 8-hour shifts. Store hours are Monday–Friday 6:00am–6:00pm and Saturday 7:00am–5:00pm. Schedules are set within these parameters.
