Requirements

employU is seeking a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator - Upper Keys to help launch and grow employU Connects programming in Key Largo, Tavernier, and Islamorada.

This role will serve as a local community representative for employU by building relationships with community partners, identifying potential participants, supporting outreach events, and helping adults with disabilities connect to career readiness classes, Vocational Rehabilitation education, and future employment pathways.

The ideal candidate is relational, organized, comfortable meeting new people, and passionate about helping individuals with disabilities access meaningful opportunities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Represent employU at community events, partner meetings, tabling opportunities, and local networking activities.
  • Build relationships with schools, churches, nonprofits, civic organizations, community resource groups, employers, and other local partners.
  • Identify individuals with disabilities who may benefit from employU Connects programming.
  • Help interested individuals complete the appropriate lead or referral form.
  • Provide warm handoffs to the employU Connects Program Coordinator for formal screening and next steps.
  • Recruit participants for employU Academy classes and related career readiness activities.
  • Support class logistics, including reminders, attendance encouragement, location coordination, and basic technology support.
  • Help identify and reduce barriers to participation, including scheduling, transportation, technology access, and communication needs.
  • Document outreach activity, partner contacts, participant leads, and follow-up efforts as directed.
  • Communicate regularly with the Keys Area Manager and employU Connects team.

Role Focus

This position is focused on community outreach, participant engagement, local relationship-building, and program support.

The Community Outreach Coordinator does not independently enroll participants into services or determine formal program placement. The employU Connects Program Coordinator completes formal screening, service routing, and Vocational Rehabilitation application support when appropriate.


Qualifications


Required

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable attending community events and speaking with new people.
  • Organized and able to track follow-up tasks, contacts, and participant information.
  • Comfortable using email, phone, text, basic computer systems, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to work independently while staying connected to a remote team.
  • Passion for supporting individuals with disabilities and inclusive employment.
  • Reliable transportation for local travel throughout Key Largo, Tavernier, and Islamorada.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evening or weekend events as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience in community outreach, nonprofit services, education, workforce development, disability services, social services, or human services.
  • Familiarity with the Upper Keys community and local organizations.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, families, schools, churches, or community partners.
  • Familiarity with Vocational Rehabilitation or employment services is helpful but not required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Creole skills are a plus.

Background Screening Requirement:
This position requires a level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Schedule and Work Location

This is a part-time position of approximately 20-25 hours per week. The schedule will be flexible based on community events, partner meetings, participant needs, and class schedules.

This is a community-based position serving Key Largo, Tavernier, and Islamorada. Local travel to partner sites, community events, and shared class locations will be required.
