Job Summary: Manage the graphics plant at Sumter Correctional Institution, overseeing daily operations, staffing, training, and discipline. Set and achieve production goals while ensuring safety, cost efficiency, and timely delivery. Train inmate workers in printing processes and equipment use. Maintain inventory control and manage shipping.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead, guide, and direct employees to meet or exceed operational goals as well as monitoring performance, providing coaching, and ensure staff development.
- Oversee the manufacturing production processes and ensure weekly production schedules are met.
- Train inmate workers in the tools and techniques required for the department’s operations. This training should include all applicable environmental and occupational safety standards, and the quality standards appropriate for the industry.
- Monitor work, enforce productivity standards, resolve operational problems, and implement new procedures as required.
- Assume leadership role in development and modification of new methods and equipment.
- Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for process changes, quality audits, system enhancements, and customer facing processes and product offerings.
- Communicate program information and status to FDC, PRI, and third-party client staff.
- Be proficient and fully trained in navigating and using PRI computer systems.
- Perform other assigned duties as deemed needed by the General Manager.
- Work closely with DC personnel to ensure compliance with institution rules and regulations in the performance of shipping and receiving goods.
- Serve as operational site manager for the Braille and FDOT Sumter operations. This requires interaction with both operations to ensure compliance with Sumter CI policies and procedures.
Education and Experience: BA in printing or digital print industry or business, operations, logistics or supply chain. 5+ years of management experience in a manufacturing, production, or distribution environment.
Language Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively written and verbal with excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills.
Mathematical Skills: Ability math skills.
Reasoning Ability: Training inmates in production and clerical techniques and coordinating manpower and equipment usage.
Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill:
- Experience in manufacturing ERP systems, specifically Dynamics 365.
- Solid understanding of Safety and OSHA standards.
- Prefer Kaizen experience and knowledge.
- Solid knowledge of Mail Manager, BCC, Canon Workflow, Ricoh Workflow and GMS Inspire or similar DMM software.
- Strong technical skills in Excel, Word, & Corel.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, use feet to operator pedals of vehicle; and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud – the dust level is moderate.
