Position Summary
Biomerics is seeking an entrepreneurial, high-performing Business Development Engineer to drive growth for our New Product Development (NPD) Group. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious medical device engineer looking to transition into a commercial business leader.
In this role, you will essentially act as the CEO of your own accounts, taking total ownership of the customer relationship to drive new product development business and accelerate early-to-market manufacturing. You will partner with highly innovative medical device OEMs and start-ups, translating complex clinical and technical concepts into viable commercial programs. If you have a strong engineering foundation, a hunter mentality, and a desire to run your own business segment within a world-class CDMO, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
Account Leadership & "CEO" Mindset
- Own the Account Lifecycle: Act as the primary business executive for your portfolio, managing strategic growth, contract negotiations, profitability, and long-term partnership health.
- Drive Early-to-Market Strategy: Partner with customers to accelerate their product launch timelines by leveraging Biomerics’ rapid prototyping, NPI (New Product Introduction), and early-stage manufacturing capabilities.
Prospecting & Pipeline Generation
- Identify and capture new business opportunities early in the product lifecycle, targeting R&D-stage projects, complex redesigns, and next-generation medical device platforms.
- Proactively network within the medical device community to find highly innovative OEMs and start-ups requiring engineering and development services.
Technical Consultation & Solution Selling
- Bridge the gap between customer engineering teams and Biomerics’ internal NPD resources.
- Utilize your medical device engineering background to understand complex technical requirements, advising clients on Design for Manufacturability (DFM), component integration, and scalability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead project scoping, coordinate RFQs, and develop commercial proposals in tandem with internal R&D, operations, quality, and project management teams.
- Ensure seamless handoffs from early-stage development to full-scale production.
Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Monitor industry trends, venture capital funding in med-tech, and clinical advancements to position Biomerics as the development partner of choice.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Biomedical, Mechanical, Materials Science, or related technical field).
- Experience: 3–7+ years of experience within the medical device industry, specifically in R&D engineering, product development, or technical program management, with a proven desire to transition into a commercial leadership role.
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of complex medical device design, subassemblies, components, delivery systems, and the product development lifecycle (from concept to verification/validation).
- Commercial Mindset: A "hunter" mentality with a passion for business growth, negotiation, and building executive-level relationships.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to confidently present technical solutions to both engineering teams and C-suite executives.
- Autonomy: A self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who thrives in a fast-paced, highly technical B2B environment and loves the challenge of building a business unit with minimal direction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working within a Medical Device Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO/CDMO) or engineering services firm.
- Familiarity with interventional, cardiovascular, neurovascular, structural heart, or minimally invasive surgical markets.
- Strong foundational knowledge of FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and design controls.
- An MBA or advanced business training is a major plus.
- Position location is flexible/remote, with a preference for proximity to a major metropolitan airport for customer travel.
