LABORER I
Description

Definition: A landfill Labor is Under supervision of Operations Supervisor, Landfill Operations Manager, performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled work associated with maintaining the Salt River Landfill.


Tasks:

  • The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Performs a variety of general grounds keeping activities, including picking up trash and brush, and setting up barricades and portable fencing for work areas.
  • Directs traffic to appropriate parking and dumping locations and inspects loads ensuring that inappropriate material does not come into the landfill.
  • Performs a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks, including cleaning, changing light bulbs, and setting up tables and chairs for special events.
  • Lift moderately heavy objects.
  • Wash landfill equipment as needed.
  • Miscellaneous jobs and duties as requested.
  • Required and predictable attendance
  • Work extended hours at times
  • Work schedules including overtime, holidays, On-Call, and weekends as needed.
  • Good physical condition and stamina to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and prolonged standing or walking.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of basic Landfill safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate and communicate over a two-way radio.

Work environment:

  • Primarily outdoors, exposed to weather elements
  • Loud noise from operating machinery
  • Potential exposure to dust and odors
  • May require working on uneven terrain

Safety

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment and follow traffic control procedures at the landfill.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screening tests.
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required.
