Description

This position plays a critical role in developing, implementing, and maintaining software solutions that support the credit union’s operations.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain software applications and systems using SQL, PowerBI, Java, XML, and API technologies to meet the credit union’s operational needs.
  • Work closely with various departments to understand their needs, translate business requirements into technical specifications, and deliver aligned technical solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve software issues to minimize operational disruptions. Analyze and optimize existing code and systems for performance and efficiency. 
  • Integrate various systems and applications using APIs, ensuring seamless communication and functionality within the credit union’s technological infrastructure. 
  • Design and implement new features and enhancements to existing applications. 
  • Generate reports and create data visualizations using PowerBI to support decision-marking processes.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices to apply innovative solutions that enhance the credit union’s operations.
  • Maintains orderly documentation with attention to complete and accurate detailing of all problems or correspondence.
  • Other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.

Work Relationships and Scope: Reports directly to the Vice President of Data Engineering. Will have regular contact with employees of the Information department. Will also have occasional contact with all WCCU employees, depending on project needs.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience:

  • College degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or a combination of education and experience. Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator or Oracle Certified Professional, are highly desired.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a SQL programmer required, preferably within a financial institution. 
  • Proficiency in SQL databases is required. Experience with API technologies, Java, C++, Symitar SymXchange and PowerOn programming is highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of IT terminology and database structures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical employees & members. This role involves regular interaction with others inside and outside of the organization to give or obtain information and build relationships.
  • Ability to work independently, particularly in a remote setting, while managing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to provide courteous and prompt service.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of personalities in a courteous, effective, and efficient manner.  
  • Knowledge and ability to apply current financial service industry standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to present ideas, report facts and other information clearly and concisely. 
  • Proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficient operation of a variety of general office equipment such as a computer, software applications, typewriter, calculator, telephone, copy machine, fax machine and other similar devices or programs related to the position.

Working Conditions:

Job Conditions/Work Location: The majority of work will be performed in a normal office environment. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, education and other concerns. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Will make periodic visits to branch locations.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods of time, regularly access files (some standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, lifting and carrying of usually light materials.) Frequent mental and visual concentration required for computer usage.

Equipment Used: Various software programs, telephone, computer, copy machine, calculator, fax machine, and other office equipment.

Hazards: Only those present in a normal office setting; no known hazards. In the course of working with the public, the employee may, on a very limited basis, encounter abusive, aggressive or unpredictable threatening behavior. Must observe safety and security practices at all times.
