Summary: Checkout customers and provide excellent customer service. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to Seaside Market policies and procedures when operating the cash register. Verifies till contents at the beginning of shift.
  • Accurately records daily transaction amounts from cash register to balance cash drawer.
  • Required to memorize produce codes and apply the proper code used to record the sale.
  • Packages and handles customers’ groceries according to their bag preference.
  • Collects shopping carts from inside store and area others as directed.
  • Performs other stocking tasks as assigned.
  • Directs customers to departments and aisles.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Observe all store rules and company policies.
  • Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations.
  • Follow safety guidelines when working, especially when lifting, using cutting tools, large machinery, ladders, stretch and take breaks when performing repetitive motions, etc.
  • Follow health guidelines to ensure safe product is provided to our customers.
  • Knowledge of Weight & Measure Laws.

Qualifications:

As mandated by California state law; Cashiers who sell alcoholic beverages must be 18 years old or older.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and some experience preferred.


Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills:

Food Handler Certifications.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required stand and use the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools or controls and engages in repetitive motions;

  • The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 50 pounds supplies and frequently exert or lift negligible amounts of weight;
  • Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus including possessing sufficient visual acuity to verify invoices and other written documents;
  • Be able to sweep and mop floor and lift and carry out trash containers to be emptied in an outside bin;
  • Have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as cleanup requests due to accidental spills or breakage of glass;
  • Be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents such as ammonia during routine housekeeping duties.
