Role Summary
We rely on our associates for flexibility and foresight, while maintaining confidentiality related to high-level systems and operations.
The Wi-Fi Network Design Engineer is responsible for designing scalable, reliable network solutions that support both wireless (Wi-Fi) and core infrastructure needs across ISP projects. This role is intentionally designed to be broad rather than siloed, allowing the engineer to contribute to full project design instead of owning only one technical layer.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Wi-Fi design and a strong foundation in network infrastructure, including fiber, Ethernet, and end-to-end network architecture. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive Wi-Fi designs, reduce project bottlenecks, and support consistent throughput across the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design Wi-Fi networks that meet performance, coverage, and scalability requirements for ISP environments
- Develop end-to-end network designs that incorporate Wi-Fi, fiber, Ethernet, and supporting infrastructure
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, construction, operations, and project teams) to ensure designs align with overall project goals and contractual obligations
- Participate in full project lifecycle design discussions rather than focusing on a single network component
- Review project requirements and translate them into practical, build-ready network designs
- Balance workload across Wi-Fi and infrastructure design to help prevent backlogs and single-threaded dependencies
- Provide technical input and guidance during implementation as needed
- Document designs, assumptions, and standards clearly and consistently
- Stay current with Wi-Fi technologies, network infrastructure trends, and industry best practices
- Other directives as required.
Skills & Abilities
- Experience working in an ISP or service-provider environment
- CWNA certification (recommended but not required)
- Familiarity with common Wi-Fi design and survey tools
- Experience designing networks at scale or supporting multiple concurrent projects
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours and on weekends when required.
Education & Experience
- At least three years of experience in related field.
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure fundamentals, including fiber networks, ethernet, and general network architecture principles
- Demonstrated experience with Wi-Fi design, planning, and performance considerations
- Ability to design networks holistically rather than in isolated technical silos
- Experience working collaboratively with cross functional teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
