Senior Accountant – Empower the Future of Travel with Blockskye
Blockskye is transforming corporate travel and entertainment with next-generation blockchain-powered booking, payment, and expense solutions. By connecting suppliers and corporate buyers through cutting-edge technology, we drive transparency, trust, and efficiency in travel management. Backed by industry-leading partners in booking technology, airlines, and innovative payment solutions, we are shaping the future of the industry.
We move fast, build from scratch, and expect everyone on the team to leave a mark. If you thrive where there is no playbook yet — where your instincts, curiosity, and drive shape the outcome —Blockskye is where you belong.
This is not a maintain-the-status-quo role. As our Senior Accountant, you will own the design of controls, the development of processes, and the identification of efficiencies in a company that is growing faster than its infrastructure can keep up. You will have real influence over how our finance function is built — and you will be expected to use it.
We need someone who asks questions before they are obvious, who sees a broken process as an invitation rather than a headache, and who can hold their own in a conversation with software engineering, operations, and leadership alike. If you have a natural curiosity, like to understand how the business really works, and you are energized by solving problems that do not yet have a manual, this role was written for you.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise — particularly in revenue recognition — with experience in multi-entity operations, overseas accounting team collaboration, SOX compliance, and the travel or technology industry.
Proactive
You anticipate what’s needed before being asked
Curious
You dig into the why, not just the what
Collaborative
You build bridges across teams and time zones
Problem Solver
You turn ambiguity into structured solutions
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Lead month-end and year-end close with a bias toward continuous improvement — every close is a chance to make the next one faster and cleaner.
- Identify automation opportunities in the ERP system to reduce manual entries and free up bandwidth for higher-value work.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals for travel-related expenses, commissions, and vendor liabilities.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Manage intercompany transactions between U.S. and international entities (e.g., Canada), including transfer pricing adjustments and elimination entries.
- Partner with tax advisors and leadership to ensure compliance with local tax regulations, U.S. reporting requirements, and Secretary of State and Sales and Use tax filings.
- Build a strong working relationship with our international finance team — ask the right questions, align on process, and don’t let distance be an excuse for misalignment.
Travel Industry-Specific Accounting
- Review and analyze commission revenues, refunds, and chargebacks — and proactively surface trends that matter to the business.
- Partner with operations teams to ensure accurate recording of client billings and travel-related costs; push back when something does not add up.
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements.
- Support audits with clear documentation and crisp explanations — be the person auditors actually enjoy working with.
- Spot process gaps and fix them. We do not wait for someone else to notice.
- Support implementation and optimization of accounting systems; approach every system rollout as a problem to solve, not a task to survive.
- Assist with design, implementation, and ongoing application of internal controls.
Must-Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity environment.
- Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, general ledger fluency, and financial reporting chops.
- Experience with foreign currency transactions and intercompany accounting.
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting software such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or QuickBooks Enterprise.
- Exceptional attention to detail paired with the ability to zoom out and see the bigger picture.
- Strong communicator who can translate accounting complexity for non-finance stakeholders.
Traits We Can’t Train
- Proactive by default — you identify what needs to be done and do it, without waiting to be asked.
- Genuinely curious — you want to understand how the business works, not just your slice of it.
- Collaborative instinct — you loop people in early, share context freely, and make others
- better.
- Problem-solving orientation — ambiguity does not paralyze you; it activates you.
- Comfortable with change — in a startup, the only constant is that priorities will shift, and you must be able to adapt with a solutions-first attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or active CPA candidate.
- Experience in corporate travel or technology industry, including GDS, commission structures, or customer/vendor reconciliations.
- Knowledge of transfer pricing rules and multi-jurisdictional tax considerations.
- Previous experience in a high-growth, early-stage environment.
