Description
The Yard Forklift Operator is responsible for the internal transport of raw and finished pipe products within the warehouse and outside yard. The Yard Forklift Operator has a thorough understanding of product placement and organization, is considered a mentor and trainer for new hires; and can perform their job duties with little to no supervision.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Transporting raw and finished materials to different locations within the facility
- Optimizing loads to ensure operational efficiency
- Securing loads to machine before transportation
- Accurately and neatly assemble bundles for storage or shipment
- Accurately label bundles
- Picking and staging orders for shipment
- Adhering to safety management standards
- Adhering to production schedules
- Abides by all Standard Operating Procedures and processes
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to all safety procedures and regulations
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
- Oversees the training of new operators using role specific checklists; and provides feedback of new hire progress to production supervisor and other members of the management team
- Participates and attends meetings as required for training, safety, and recertifications
- Delivers quality hands-on instruction and proactively maintains a safe and healthy work environment for new hires
- Maintains open and honest communication; addressing questions and concerns; and fosters mutual respect
- Promotes compliance with SOPs, Safety Guidelines, Quality Assurance, and company policies and procedures
- All other duties as required
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to effectively operate and maintain forklift equipment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend direction in both written and verbal form
- Must be able to measure dimension material thickness and part dimensions accurately
- Must be able to read and understand prints
- Must be able to read and understand measuring devices
- Basic math skills required
- Effectively prioritize, schedule, and review work
- Understand and follow oral and written directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Work independently with little direction
- Meet schedules and timelines
- Maintain routine records
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years' experience in a similar role
Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds
- Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
