Summary of Primary Duties
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides both clinical and administrative support within the Internal and Family Medicine Practice. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care, supporting providers, managing front-office operations, and ensuring compliance with all Evolve Life Centers (ELC) policies and procedures. The CMA serves as a key member of the healthcare team and contributes to a positive patient experience through a collaborative, patient-centered approach.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Service and Front Office Support
- Represent Evolve Life Centers in a courteous, professional, and compassionate manner.
- Greet patients, visitors, and incoming calls promptly and professionally.
- Process voicemails and take accurate messages containing all required information.
- Screen and direct calls to appropriate staff members.
- Schedule, coordinate, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments as directed by providers.
- Obtain and update accurate patient demographic and insurance information.
- Obtain and process insurance referrals in a timely manner.
- Provide prompt, efficient, and accurate patient service.
- Meet or exceed patient, provider, and staff expectations through teamwork and collaboration.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
- Collect copayments, deductibles, coinsurance, and other patient-responsible balances.
- Accurately process payments and issue receipts.
- Prepare daily deposits and maintain cash handling procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of outpatient medical billing and coding practices.
- Monitor and respond to departmental email communications regularly.
- Remain at workstation and prepared to begin work on time.
- Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate patient care needs, including occasional schedule adjustments.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assist providers with patient care activities as directed.
- Perform specimen collection procedures.
- Administer injections and medications as directed by the Primary Care Provider (PCP).
- Communicate prescription refill requests and prescription information with pharmacies as authorized.
- Follow established clinical protocols and maintain accurate documentation.
- Adhere to OSHA standards and infection control procedures.
Compliance and Teamwork
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all ELC policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all HIPAA, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
- Effectively communicate with patients, providers, and team members.
- Support a cooperative team environment and assist colleagues as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification preferred.
- Experience in a medical office, primary care, family medicine, or internal medicine setting preferred.
- Ability to administer injections and medications according to provider direction.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, referrals, billing, and coding processes.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), computer systems, and office software.
