Description

The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) Director of Civic Education and Training is a strategic and innovative leader responsible for identifying, designing, and providing impactful training and learning resources and opportunities for state and local Leagues to engage the public as well as equip individuals with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead in civic spaces. This role ensures that affiliates have access to high-quality resources, train-the-trainer programs, and guidance that strengthen civic participation nationwide, helping attract new supporters and members of the public engaged in the League’s work.


This role is an opportunity to shape the future of civic education, equipping individuals and organizations with the tools to strengthen democracy. The Director oversees a dynamic team that provides training, tools, resources, and strategic guidance to Leagues and the public to combat disinformation, rebuild trust in our democracy and electoral processes, engage voters in the electoral process and civic life, and advance voter-centric practices.


This position is remote. Travel is required for this position 10-15% of the year.


The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $110,000 annually.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership & Education Training Development

  • Develop a comprehensive education and training strategy that aligns with LWVUS (national) strategic goals and initiatives and meets the needs of state and local Leagues.
  • Perform needs-based assessments of state and local League capacity to identify strategic priorities for training on a national and regional basis.
  • Design and implement train-the-trainer programs, presentations, templates, and guidance to enhance affiliate learning and capacity-building.
  • Lead cross-departmental efforts, with a strong connection to the League’s Department of Activation and Justice and Transformation Team, to identify regional and local training needs.
  • Ensure that educational content is accessible, engaging, and impactful for diverse audiences.

Team Management & Collaboration

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Civic Education and Training team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Supervise the work of the Education and Training team to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with other teams and departments, including the Public Engagement Innovation and Strategic Partnerships teams, to create cohesive civic learning initiatives.

Marketing & Public Engagement

  • Guide the promotion of training opportunities and educational resources.
  • Develop strategies to expand the reach and impact of civic learning initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at events, conferences, and coalitions related to civic education and democracy-building.
Requirements

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or comparable work experience of 7 years or more, required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 7+ years of experience in civic education, training development, adult learning, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to design and implement training programs, especially for diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of democracy, civic engagement, and strategies to combat misinformation.
  • Experience leading teams and managing complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The person in this position is primarily sedentary and occasionally needs to move around the office to access office machinery. The person must also be available to travel to local and nationwide offices and events. Computers and other office productivity machinery are constantly used, such as calculators, copy machines, computers, and computer printers.
