Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Schedule and dispatch drivers, trucks, and equipment to meet delivery and pickup requirements.
- Monitor driver routes and provide real-time support to ensure on-time service.
- Communicate with drivers regarding assignments, route changes, delays, and customer needs.
- Track vehicle locations and shipment status using transportation management systems and GPS technology.
- Coordinate load assignments to maximize fleet utilization and operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of driver logs, trip reports, fuel usage, and transportation documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Hours of Service (HOS) requirements, and company safety policies.
- Respond promptly to transportation emergencies, breakdowns, accidents, or service disruptions.
- Work closely with customers, other departments, and drivers to resolve delivery issues and maintain service excellence.
- Verify load information, delivery schedules, and transportation documentation for accuracy.
- Monitor driver performance and communicate operational concerns to management.
- Assist in planning and optimizing routes to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Generate and maintain dispatch reports and operational records.
- Obtain all permits required to transport equipment.
- Load and unload equipment as required.
- Operate a forklift to pull equipment attachments.
- Associate degree or equal experience in Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of dispatching, logistics coordination, or transportation experience preferred.
- Experience in the trucking or freight transportation industry strongly preferred.
- Some knowledge or experience with heavy equipment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of transportation operations, routing, and dispatch procedures.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and transportation compliance standards.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in transportation management software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Ability to communicate effectively by phone, radio, and electronic communication systems.
- Occasional lifting of office materials up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to climb onto machines.
Work Environment
- Office environment within a transportation or trucking operation.
- May require occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or on-call availability based on operational needs.
