Description

Job Summary

The Fireplace Apprentice assists experienced technicians with the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of gas, wood-burning, pellet, and electric fireplaces. This entry-level position provides hands-on training in fireplace systems, venting, gas lines, safety procedures, and customer service while preparing the apprentice for advancement into a skilled technician role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist technicians with fireplace installations and service calls.
  • Learn to safely handle tools, equipment, and materials used in fireplace construction and repair.
  • Support the assembly and installation of fireplace units, chimney systems, and venting components.
  • Help inspect fireplaces and chimneys for safety, code compliance, and operational issues.
  • Clean work areas and maintain a safe job site.
  • Load, unload, and transport tools and materials.
  • Learn troubleshooting techniques for gas, wood-burning, pellet, and electric fireplace systems.
  • Follow company safety policies and industry standards.
  • Interact professionally with customers and maintain a positive company image.
  • Complete training programs and certifications as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift 50–75 pounds.
  • Ability to work on ladders, rooftops, and in confined spaces.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn a skilled trade.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Previous construction, HVAC, masonry, carpentry, or trade experience.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of fireplace or chimney systems.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in dusty environments.
