POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Director is responsible for overseeing operational performance to ensure all processes run smoothly, accurately, and efficiently. This role drives continuous improvement by implementing best practices, monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), and leading quality initiatives across operations. The Quality Director partners with leadership to enhance operational effectiveness, maintain customer satisfaction, and support strategic growth.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION
- Oversee and evaluate operational performance to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with company standards
- Train, coach, and mentor operations personnel and leadership
- Lead implementation of new technologies, processes, and operational initiatives
- Conduct quality audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Manage and review all key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Lead KPI review meetings and communicate performance trends and gaps
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations
- Support new operation start-ups, including project management of implementation plans
- Demonstrate a consistently positive and professional demeanor, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment
- Encourage constructive dialogue for the team, even during periods of change or challenge
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity. Uphold confidentiality standards in all communications and decisions, ensuring trust and compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements
OTHER SIGNIFICANT JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE
- Train and onboard new operations leaders
- Develop and maintain continuous training programs, including audit frameworks
- Create and manage SOPs and training materials for new systems and processes
- Track and analyze operational KPIs and report variances from budget
- Facilitate KPI meetings covering metrics such as:
- Revenue trends
- Safety performance
- Receivables
- Fuel efficiency (MPG, idle time, compliance)
- Preventative maintenance (PMs)
- Backhaul performance (if applicable)
- Manage projects and action items identified during KPI reviews
- Coordinate and lead QBRs (Quarterly Business Reviews) and MBRs (Monthly Business Reviews) with customers
- Conduct surveys and audits related to customer, driver, and employee satisfaction
- Identify and discreetly report operational issues and risks
- Develop and execute process improvement strategies
- Regularly evaluate operational workflows and performance
- Assist in tracking, reporting, and analyzing driver and director bonus programs
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance, along with being available in an on-call status
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Comply with company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 5+ years of experience in operations, quality management, or logistics leadership roles
- Proven experience managing KPIs, audits, and operational performance
- Experience leading teams, training, and mentoring staff
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or related field
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain environments
- Project management experience, including leading system or process implementations
- Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies
REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with data tracking and KPI reporting
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Proficiency with operational and logistics systems, including:
- TMW
- TotalMail
- PeopleNet
- Samsara
- Familiarity with collaboration tools such as OneDrive and SharePoint
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with others, promoting a team environment
- Accepts constructive criticism with professionalism and uses it as a tool for continuous learning and skill enhancement
- Effectively communicates with personnel at all organizational levels, both internal and external, to foster collaboration and drive process improvements
- Strong listening skills to fully understand customer concerns, able to respond with thoughtful solutions, and handle criticism constructively and without emotional reactivity
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
