The Music Director will lead and oversee all liturgical musical aspects of worship at the parish and school, fostering a vibrant and engaging liturgical experience, with reverence and fidelity to the sacred music traditions of the Catholic Church. This position requires a deep understanding of Catholic worship, exceptional musical talent, and strong leadership skills.  This position also requires an ability to develop, direct and sustain a wide variety of music ensembles; including but not limited to chant ensembles, men’s and women’s scholas, mixed adult and children’s choirs, praise and worship ensembles and instrumental groups. The Music Director will also be responsible for playing organ and piano accompaniment at Masses and events as needed.


Responsibilities Include:  

  • Plans the music for all liturgies upholding the Church's teachings.
  • Serves as the pianist for masses for the school.
  • Fosters active participation in the liturgy through beautiful sacred music, encouraging congregational singing.  
  • Oversees Church sound and AV in Ballard Hall.
  • Plans new music events that expose the parish to new and different music experiences (concerts)
  • Makes recommendations for the purchase of new hymnals, instruments, etc and coordinates with the school to switch out missals from the pews for the new church year
  • Recruits and trains volunteer and/or professional staff singers for the choir
  • Works in conjunction with the Pastor on seasonal planning of music for the liturgies. 
  • Coordinates the music for liturgies such as weddings and funerals, and other parish celebrations. 
  • Produces publications as needed
  • Interfaces with third party vendors for special requests/events
  • Oversees the library of music in the parish’s possession and continues to enlarge and legally purchase music for the ministry. 
  • Oversees the maintenance of organs, pianos and other music equipment.
  • Prepares piano and/or organ music through sufficient practice for the liturgies. 
  • Collaborates directly with Director of Evangelization as well as attends all Directors meetings 
  • Collaborates and supports the school music teacher to help develop and enrich the school music program, both liturgical and the performing arts.
Requirements
  • BA or MA in music or related field preferred
  • Proven experience as a Director of Music or similar role preferred
  • Proficiency in liturgical principles and the repertory of varied styles of sacred music- especially Roman Catholic musical styles and traditions.
  • Exceptional proficiency in organ and piano. 
  • Proven experience supporting a school music program
  • Comprehensive choral direction experience.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey musical direction. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others. 
  • Practicing Catholic preferred.  
  • Avoid promoting, endorsing, or engaging in conduct or a lifestyle that could bring discredit or disgrace on, cause scandal, or reflect negatively on the Archdiocese of Denver, or that is contrary to Catholic doctrine or moral teachings.

Salary Description
$65,000 - $80,000
