Description

INTERA Incorporated is seeking a motivated and technically curious Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Engineer to join our Austin, Texas office. This position provides opportunities to build field and office expertise, contribute to projects across Texas, New Mexico, and other regions, and make a meaningful impact on environmental stewardship and resource management. This role supports a wide range of environmental investigations, monitoring programs, permitting efforts, and compliance projects for industrial, commercial, and government clients. Responsibilities include environmental site assessments, field investigations, drilling and well installation support, groundwater and soil sampling, hydraulic testing, environmental monitoring, data analysis, GIS mapping, permit application support, and preparation of technical reports and regulatory deliverables. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early- to mid-career professional to expand their expertise across environmental consulting disciplines while working alongside experienced scientists and engineers on challenging, meaningful projects. 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist with environmental permit applications and audits, including supporting documentation, data review, and regulatory compliance evaluations
  • Completing routine monitoring events, such as downloading pressure gauge data and measuring water levels
  • Collecting environmental samples and/or using field instruments to monitor environmental conditions (groundwater, stormwater, surface water, soil vapor, landfill gas, soil/sediment, and air)
  • Supporting and participating in environmental site characterization investigations, including soil gas investigations, monitoring well drilling and installation, soil and groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing events
  • Developing and updating site maps in ArcGIS
  • Documenting, managing, and analyzing environmental data to develop graphical summaries and reports using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word or equivalent software
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements for fieldwork
  • Overseeing work performed by subcontractors, to ensure work is completed in accordance with work plans, design drawings, specifications, and/or client expectations
  • Interfacing with clients

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geosciences, engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of applied relevant experience
  •  Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage recurring responsibilities and meet established deadlines 
  • Capable of providing thorough and accurate records of field activities through the use of forms and daily logs
  • Experience with data evaluation and technical report preparation
  • Clear communication skills with technical and non-technical topics through writing, presentations, and verbal methods to a variety of audiences
  • The ability to work both independently and in project teams  
  • Willing and able to safely drive and/or travel to project sites
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience in maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical systems (pumps, motors, field instruments, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work experience with an environmental or engineering firm
  • Experience with Phase I ESAs, environmental drilling techniques, and environmental sample collection
  • Basic understanding of level survey methods (rod & level, laser level, total station)
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training
