Designer 3

The Designer III is an expert technical role responsible for leading complex 3D modeling, driving CAD standards, and producing fully accurate, production-ready drawings and BOMs with complete independence. This position transforms minimal input into detailed models, mentors lower-level designers, and ensures the team’s work meets factory, modeling, and documentation standards.

The role provides advanced troubleshooting, reviews and corrects lower-level CAD work, identifies workflow issues, and helps implement improved tools, templates, and processes. The Designer III is a key technical resource for the department, demonstrating strong judgment, efficiency, and high-level understanding of XeteX systems while supporting continuous improvement across engineering and production.


Job Duties: 

Advanced Modeling & Technical Expertise

· Demonstrates advanced proficiency in CAD, producing accurate, complete 3D models and drawings with minimal direction.

· Converts rough concepts or sketches into fully driven models and detailed fabrication drawings.

· Acts as the primary technical resource for complex modeling challenges.

· Creates, updates, and maintains CAD libraries, templates, and advanced model structures to support consistent, efficient design practices.

· Implements improved CAD tools, workflows, and modeling standards across the group.

· Ensures adherence to company standards for 3D modeling techniques, layout consistency, and model readability.

· Reviews work produced by lower-level designers, identifying issues and communicating corrections using the proper process.

· Ensures all BOMs are accurate and align with factory expectations for clarity and manufacturability.

Quality & Process Ownership

· Upholds and enforces all company standards for file management, documentation practices, and engineering accuracy.

· Owns the quality of assigned design work without requiring oversight.

· Identifies opportunities for product or process improvements and provides detailed technical recommendations.

· Suggests effective solutions as issues arise, supporting continuous improvement within the CAD team.

Project Coordination

· Maintains awareness of deadlines and proactively monitors schedule risks.

· Identifies bottlenecks before they impact workflow and assists in planning priorities for the CAD group.

· Supports coordination efforts to ensure units stay on track and issues are escalated appropriately.

· Participates in discussions with supervisors and management regarding delays, design issues, or cross-department challenges.

Leadership, Training & Team Development

· Trains, supports, and mentors lower-level designers during day-to-day work.

· Assists with prioritizing tasks for less experienced team members.

· Serves as a dependable resource that the team can rely on for advanced questions, standards interpretation, and problem-solving.

Requirements

  

· Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or a related field. Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred

· Minimum of 5 years of CAD-related experience or demonstrated equivalent competency

· CAD-related experience or the ability to demonstrate CAD competency

· Leadership training or 1 year experience preferred

· Willingness and ability to train and lead up to three employees

· Expert AutoCAD proficiency

· Expert SolidWorks proficiency, SolidWorks certification

· Familiarity with fabrication equipment

· Familiarity with construction principles

· Detail orientated

· Strong understanding of full unit build structure and components

· Ability to work with a team and independently

· Ability to collaborate with a team and communicate effectively
