Position Overview:


This position drives MicroCare’s innovation strategy, product development, and laboratory operations, developing new formulations by conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and documenting findings and conclusions in technical reports.

The Senior Chemist oversees the daily laboratory operations, manages a multidisciplinary team of chemists and technicians, and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of all research, testing, and technical service projects.


Responsibilities:


  1. Manage and supervise all laboratory activities, including Quality Control (QC) testing, Research & Development (R&D), customer technical service, and equipment maintenance.
  2. Collaborate with Director of R&D to prioritize projects, stage-gate deliverables, and resource allocation; provide technical insight during NPD.
  3. Develop new products and technologies according to the company technology roadmaps.
  4. Responsible to develop project plans inclusive of initial formulary approaches.
  5. Identify formulary ideas for projects via patent and literature search if needed. 
  6. Ensure Sales/Application Engineering have the technical information required to support 
  7. customer trials and conversions; participate in customer calls and site visits as needed.
  8. Monitor and evaluate patent activity, scientific literature, and the competitive landscape to identify emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities, and present relevant findings to cross-functional teams as needed.
  9. Serve as technical escalation point for manufacturing troubleshooting, including re-work/disposition of non-conforming product and floor/field issues.
  10. Continuously improving processes to reduce cycle time, enhance data integrity, and strengthen safety culture.
  11. Own laboratory budget and oversee purchasing of tools, instruments, consumables, reagents, and solvents; ensure cost control and vendor performance. 
  12. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment; enforce OSHA, EPA, ISO 9001, and internal SOPs.
  13. Promote an?incident free?workplace by complying with safety policies and procedures and?participating?in company safety?trainings.?? 
  14. Other duties as assigned.


Competencies/Experience:


  • Strong leadership and team management; ability to set priorities and coach a multidisciplinary lab team
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking; structured experimentation to resolve technical uncertainty
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Sales/Marketing, and Customer Relations
  • Outstanding communication (written, verbal, presentation) with clear technical reporting.
  • Time management and organization; ability to manage multiple projects in parallel in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, FDA and chemical handling/storage/disposal requirements

Requirements

  Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of hands-on formulation chemistry experience, with a proven track record of developing, testing and commercializing chemical products
  • 10+ years of experience in a laboratory environment, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety, industrial chemical processes, and quality control principles
  • Prior experience with a wide variety of chemical concepts and chemical laboratory practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with relevant testing equipment and ability to create test methods. 
  • Proficiency in laboratory software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Up to 10% travel

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or relevant Science or Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of GC, Karl Fischer, and other chromatographic/spectroscopic techniques; data integrity and method validation
  • Water based chemistry background/experience specifically in the area of disinfectants, sterilant, enzyme solutions and other cleaning type products for the medical, dental and industrial markets
  • Bi-lingual Spanish

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily a laboratory setting with occasional visits to production areas
  • Must adhere to strict safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Continuous sitting 
  • Continuous keyboard use/ repetitive hand motion
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
