General Summary:

The Safety Specialist supports the safe execution of work activities across all divisions. This role promotes a proactive safety culture by conducting field observations, assisting with incident investigations, and reinforcing compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements. The position helps verify critical controls for high-energy tasks, supports Site-Specific Safety Plans, and contributes to identifying and reducing Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF)-potential exposures.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Conduct regular safety observations; identify hazards and help validate corrective actions.
  • Assist in or lead incident investigations, including documentation, reporting, and participation in root-cause analysis.
  • Support compliance with corporate, client, and regulatory safety standards.
  • Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, and reporting tools.
  • Participate in safety meetings, briefings, and training sessions.
  • Support implementation of Site-Specific Safety Plans and client safety initiatives.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist and partner with teams to restore safe operations.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience: Entry-level to mid-level experience in construction or industrial safety; exposure to mechanical, electrical, or utility environments beneficial.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Certifications: OSHA 10 or 30 preferred; additional safety certifications (CHST, CUSP, OHST, COSS, CSP) beneficial. Valid driver’s license required.
  • Proven Ability: Demonstrated commitment to safety, adherence to safety protocols, and willingness to learn mechanical construction safety practices.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to recognize hazards and verify critical controls. Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and related standards.
  • Behavioral Skills: Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in field environments.

Description of physical working environment:

Primarily field-based with exposure to active construction sites, varying weather conditions, and uneven terrain. Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs. Some travel to job sites and meetings required.
