Primary Objective:
The Estimator plays a critical role in securing profitable projects by delivering accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for MoboTrex products and solutions throughout the Southeast Region, with primary responsibility for Florida and surrounding markets.
Working closely with Sales, Operations, Project Management, and Manufacturing teams, the Estimator's primary objective is to identify bid opportunities, prepare comprehensive estimates, develop competitive pricing strategies, and support the successful award of projects involving traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), roadway lighting, transportation technologies, and related infrastructure products.
A secondary objective is to develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, consultants, agencies, and transportation authorities by providing technical support, responsive service, and innovative solutions that position MoboTrex as the preferred transportation technology partner in the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Bidding & Estimating
- Review and analyze plans, specifications, bid documents, contracts, and project requirements for state DOTs, municipalities, counties, contractors, consultants, and transportation agencies.
- Identify and qualify bidding opportunities throughout the assigned territory.
- Perform material quantity take-offs and project scope evaluations.
- Develop accurate project cost estimates for traffic signal systems, ITS equipment, roadway lighting, transportation technology products, and related infrastructure solutions.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor, supplier, and manufacturer pricing.
- Coordinate with internal departments to obtain labor, production, and project cost information.
- Prepare and submit accurate quotations, proposals, and bid packages within established deadlines.
- Ensure all bid documents comply with customer specifications and contractual requirements.
- Compile and coordinate submittal packages for customer and agency approval.
- Maintain organized bid files, pricing records, and estimating documentation.
- Analyze bid results, award trends, and competitive market conditions to improve future estimating strategies.
- Conduct post-bid follow-up activities and update CRM/ERP systems with relevant project information.
Sales & Customer Support
- Support Regional Sales Managers by providing technical and estimating assistance throughout the sales cycle.
- Maintain communication with contractors, engineers, consultants, procurement personnel, and agency representatives.
- Assist customers with product selection, value-engineering opportunities, and project alternatives.
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding pricing, lead times, specifications, and product applications.
- Negotiate pricing and project opportunities when appropriate.
- Build long-term customer relationships through responsiveness, professionalism, and technical expertise.
Business Growth & Operational Support
- Maintain proficiency in company ERP, CRM, and estimating systems.
- Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to support successful project execution.
- Identify market trends, new product opportunities, and emerging customer needs.
- Provide feedback regarding competitive products, market conditions, and customer requirements.
- Support forecasting, backlog reporting, and pipeline development activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating accuracy and process efficiency.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience in transportation infrastructure, traffic systems, electrical construction, ITS, roadway lighting, public works, or related industries.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience estimating transportation infrastructure, traffic signal, ITS, electrical, or roadway construction projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of public agency bidding procedures and contract requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, schematics, and technical documents.
- Understanding of FDOT, municipal, county, and transportation authority procurement processes preferred.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote or regional environment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While primarily an office-based position, the Estimator role may require:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and operating office equipment.
- Visual acuity to review detailed plans, specifications, and computer screens.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence.
- Occasional travel throughout the Southeast Region for customer meetings, project reviews, and site visits.
- Ability to walk active construction sites and navigate varying terrain when required.
