JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting various production machines used within a custom plastic profile extrusion manufacturing environment. This role supports the operation of extrusion downstream equipment and fabrication machinery, including saws, cutters, pullers, presses, and other production systems.
The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, manufacturing experience, and ability to identify and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime, and support safe, efficient operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
- Make repairs to equipment, such as extruders, pumps, chillers, HVAC systems, pullers, presses, etc.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production machinery and manufacturing equipment.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
- Repair and maintain tools, fixtures, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Assist with equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades.
- Make routine checks on equipment; documents status; completes necessary reports.
Facility and Building Maintenance
- Repair and maintain physical structures, under supervision, using hand and power tools.
- Complete paint structures, masonry, carpentry, and repairs plumbing fixtures.
- Patch concrete surfaces and perform roof and furniture repairs.
Electrical Maintenance
- Install, repair, maintain low- voltage electrical systems, appliances and fixtures.
- Measure, cut, bond, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
Safety and Compliance
- Move, install, align, and adjust appliances, fixtures, motors and other electrical/mechanical equipment for safety.
- Use various hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Adhere to siffron Des Plaines safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
- Actively speaks up and reports safety, environmental or quality concerns.
- Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist higher level mechanics and performs other duties as assigned.
- Request assistance from others for any problems beyond area of knowledge or expertise.
- Follow detailed instructions from others or written format.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of three years of maintenance trades experience within manufacturing environment.
- Electrical experience – up to 480 volts, a must.
- Previous experience with maintenance CMMS, a plus
- Previous experience with plastic processing equipment, a plus
SKILLS (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning, Other)
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to comprehend safety requirements, operating procedures, work instructions, maintenance documentation, and workplace communications.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work Saturdays, as needed
- Able to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
- Able to work in a production environment.
- Ability to bend and stoop.
- Able to walk, stand and otherwise perform job functions on concrete floors with safety boots/shoes.
- Work in manufacturing environment occasionally being exposed to dust, odors, fumes and noise.
