Position Summary:
Nickol Global Solutions (NGS) is seeking to recruit a Communications and Technology Specialist to support contract implementation for an anticipated U.S. Department of State (DOS) contract. This position is contingent upon award and will be a part-time role. The Communications and Technology Specialist will provide web development and ongoing website maintenance for the Council’s independent website; provide expert copy-editing to edit written materials, including reports, speeches, meeting notes and summaries; conduct ad hoc research; design materials, products and reports; and provide technological support for events and meetings as needed under the supervision of the Senior Project Director and/or the Deputy Project Director.
Context:
The Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP Office) within the DOS leads the United States’ global engagement in the fight against human trafficking, partnering with foreign governments and civil society to develop and implement effective anti-trafficking strategies. The TIP Office works to fulfill the mandates of combating human trafficking globally as outlined in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, as amended (TVPA), and has responsibility for bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, targeted foreign assistance, interagency coordination, and public engagement on trafficking in persons. The TIP Office seeks a contractor to support the Advisory Council as it fulfills the functions outlined in the Survivors of Human Trafficking Empowerment Act including the development of its annual report, and coordinating and managing Council travel, reimbursements, and compensation. In particular, the contractor will provide trauma-informed support to the Advisory Council by delivering technical assistance and facilitating in-person and virtual meetings of the Advisory Council, with the goal of the Council producing actionable recommendations on federal anti-trafficking policies to the PITF.
Duties:
The Communications and Technology Specialist will have overall responsibility for:
- Developing and managing an independent website for the Council. This includes at a minimum: Creating and maintaining an independent website for the Council; and Uploading the Council’s bios (as requested) and annual report to the website.
- Reviewing and editing draft reports, speeches, and other communications to ensure they meet the project’s quality standards while adhering to Department of State branding and reporting requirements.
- Proofreading final documents to correct any formatting, grammatical, punctuation, or typographical errors.
- Providing copy-editing support for all written materials produced by and for the Council and for the client.
- Conducting ad-hoc research as directed by the Senior Project Director or the Deputy Project Director.
- Ensuring adequate content management for the support team, ensuring that all relevant project and Council documents – historical and current – are organized for easy access on the appropriate platform.
- Supporting technology and A/V requirements for event / meeting execution.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, International Studies, Journalism, or other related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in communications, journalism, report writing, or similar.
- Minimum of two (2) years of web development experience.
- Proficiency with web development languages such as JavaScript, PHP, HTML5/CSS, GraphQL.
- Outstanding communication skills, influencing abilities, and client focus.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using all Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong graphic design skills.
- Prior work in in human trafficking or other human rights related issue/s is preferred.
- Client-focused, attention to detail, committed to excellence in product development.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, including the ability to produce technical reports and briefings.
- Demonstrates emotional intelligence and cultural awareness.
- Skilled in building trust-based and collaborative relationships with clients, stakeholders and officials.
