Shipping Clerk

Position Summary:  

The Shipping Clerk verifies and keeps records of outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties to quality and productivity standards.


Duties and Responsibilities:

· Daily guidance of receiving, storing, packing, and shipment of product.

· Prepare customer orders for shipment including packaging and using UPS/FEDEX systems

· Ensure appropriate material / inventory levels (max/min) to meet customer demand; Monitor, reports, and improve inventory accuracy.

· Develop and implement visual controls for inventory level management.

· Initiates & completes applicable transactions within the Epicor MRP system.

· Lead daily 5S activities.

· Identify areas of material waste and other activities that add costs to operations. 

· Facilitate and promote improvement programs which reduce inventory and overall cycle times.

· Optimize material flow throughout facility by evaluating Value Streams and implementing layout/process improvements. 

· Verify incoming / outgoing shipment accuracy vs. Sales / Purchase Orders and resolves discrepancies that are identified.

· Prepare documents for shipping (Bill of Lading, Packing List, Customs Invoice, Hazardous Materials, etc.). 

· Plan shipment schedules to meet both internal & external customer delivery expectations.

· Ensure proper identification, receipt & storage of Haz-Mat/DG materials. 

· Pick product always following FIFO (First-in-First-Out) logic.

· Expedite delivery of critical items to the customer and operations area.

· Coordinate with supervisor if errors are found.

· Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  

Knowledge & Skills:

· Proficient with various Microsoft Office Applications; Demonstrated ability to use a Business system (ERP) to complete planning, receiving and shipping transactions.

· Able to operate a stock picker, forklift, and pallet jack; obtain forklift in-house safety certification.

· Lean Manufacturing (or Six Sigma) experience; Experience managing material flow via use of Kanbans.

· Possesses excellent written, verbal communication, and people skills.

· Very detail-oriented, accurate and organized

· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

· Able to work independently and as part of a team


Qualifications:

· High School and 4 years of experience in shipping & receiving and/or inventory control. 


Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Work typically takes place in a shipping environment and it is requirable to:

· Standing – must be able to work on feet for long periods of time

· Lifting – must know how and be able to lift up to 50 pounds

· Handling – air powered stapler, pallet jack

· Reaching – supplies for shipping

· Carrying - supplies for shipping and shipping products

· Walking – to various areas in building

· Able to lift 100 pounds using a hand truck

· Able to tolerate working from heights

· Operate a PC and other office equipment

· Travel between floors and office buildings may be required

· Environmental conditions: noise, vibration, oils, solvents, chemicals
