Description

The AVP of Portfolio Management is responsible for leading and developing the Portfolio Management team while driving the achievement of sales, gross profit, and inventory objectives for all assigned supplier partners. This role serves as the primary liaison between suppliers and the organization, ensuring strategic alignment and execution of supplier goals within company margin and inventory parameters. The AVP oversees portfolio strategy, supplier business planning, forecasting, inventory management, and performance tracking, while ensuring clear and consistent communication of pricing, programs, brand priorities, and key initiatives to the sales organization and related departments. Through strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration, this position is accountable for maximizing supplier performance, profitable growth, market share gains, and the successful execution of company and supplier objectives.


In addition, the AVP of Portfolio Management will be responsible for managing relationships with key National Off-Premise accounts. This includes conducting monthly business reviews with major customers, developing strategic pricing plans, securing display and merchandising opportunities, and ensuring alignment between supplier objectives and customer execution. The AVP will partner closely with Sales Leadership and National Account teams to maximize volume, profitability, market share growth, and program execution within these critical accounts.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Negotiate and monitor initial and ongoing pricing, support, terms, samples, marketing policies, channel sales restrictions, etc. with supplier
  • Collaborate with supplier managers to set monthly goals on case volume and programming goals (displays, distribution, etc.)
  • Responsible for creating and implementing monthly/quarterly programs to achieve supplier FY targets
  • Responsible for communicating with all sales divisions on pricing, programs, and all relevant aspects of the selling of the portfolio
  • Call on key accounts with reps/managers, and solo to ensure placements, volume and execution of all programs in targeted accounts
  • Assume responsibility for monthly recap results of both case goals and programs
  • Monitor pricing changes, review beverage journal
  • Identify, develop, and support opportunities for compelling market events
  • Present and develop sales plans to sales force on a bi-monthly basis
  • Forecast and communicate future needs based on trends, programming, etc.
  • Manage and monitor all aspects of portfolio inventory
  • Provide senior management with clear communication regarding updates on sales trends, challenges, etc. on vendor by vendor and as needed basis
  • Act as liaison between all departments and vendors under management – Purchasing, Warehouse and Delivery, Sales, Finance, etc.
Requirements

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong Leadership skills including coaching and training capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong selling, presentation, people/diplomacy skills 
  • Excellent On and Off Premise Pricing capabilities
  • Solid financial acumen with the ability to use budgeting and forecasting methods
  • Ability to program with suppliers
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving abilities
  • Highly developed technical skills
  • Attention to detail and timely reporting
  • Superb time management skills
  • Solid product knowledge


Education/Experience/Training:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • Five plus years of Sales and/or Portfolio management experience in the beverage alcohol industry
  • Candidate must possess valid Massachusetts driver’s license and registration

 


Physical Demands and Environment:

  • Work performed requires or no measurable physical exertion, may be required to lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Work requires frequent standing or walking throughout the workday
  • Work requires a significant level of mental concentration required to manage multiple complex tasks requiring continual mental and visual focus
  • Work requires travel and exposure to weather conditions while visiting customers, prospects or vendors
  • Potential for accidents due to over the road travel including traffic accidents, delivery of goods or the setup of displays
