As a Project Environmental Engineer or Scientist, you will be responsible for planning, performing, and managing fieldwork to collect environmental data (soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor), performing and managing oversight of cleanup construction, evaluating and interpreting environmental data, performing engineering and scientific analysis and evaluation, preparing cleanup documents including work plans, reports and design (design drawings, specifications, and engineers estimate), managing projects/tasks, and mentoring junior staff. Performs duties in collaboration with senior engineers/geologists.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) corridor studies, and related environmental due diligence deliverables in accordance with applicable ASTM standards and WSDOT guidance.
- Conducts historical and regulatory research to support site characterization and evaluation of environmental risk scenarios.
- Leads or coordinates the development and implementation of field exploration programs and construction observation projects. Ensures that work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications as well as in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Assists with training junior technical and technician staff.
- Completes engineering analyses and calculations. Develops moderately complex conceptual models (i.e., numerical modeling, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, etc.).
- Completes moderately complex spatial analyses (e.g., contours, clipping, buffering).
- Develops project deliverables related to GIS data such as maps, database organization, etc.
- Leads the generation of technical reports including completion of routine reports, figures, tables, etc.; Assists senior staff in completing portions of large, complex reports, figures, tables, etc.
- Supports project management tasks such as budget planning, general field report reviews, and proposal development. Manages small projects under the supervision of a certified professional engineer or geologist as required.
- Gathers project-related field data and samples including soil, groundwater and/or surface water, etc. as needed. Coordinates samples for testing.
- Completes detailed, accurate field reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the appropriate/assigned field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 3 years of related professional experience required.
- Professional certification in appropriate field required. For Engineering and Geology 1 positions: Professional certification such as PE or LG required.
- Intermediate-level understanding of related software within discipline such as MathCAD, ArcGIS, MODFLOW, FLAC, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, Plaxis, or related software.
- Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- All candidates are subject to completing a background check, and reference check.

- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities and do heavy work including exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion.
- Ability to perform consistent work on a PC with prolonged sitting and view of a monitor/screen.
- Ability to travel for short-term and long-term assignments as needed.

Our best estimate of the salary range for Project Environmental Engineer 1, located in Seattle, WA or Redmond, WA is $92,000 - $130,000 annually. Our best estimate of the salary range for a Project Environmental Scientist, located in Seattle, WA or Redmond, WA is $80,000 - $113,000 annually. Our best estimate of the salary range for Project Environmental Engineer 1, located in Tacoma, WA is $89,000 - $126,000 annually. Our best estimate of the salary range for a Project Environmental Scientist, located in Tacoma, WA is $78,000 - $110,000 annually. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers’ salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
