The Finance Director is responsible for managing the accounting and financial operations of all Springs Rescue Mission and affiliates to include the production of financial statements, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the organization’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and reporting standards. This role is of vital importance to our organization as it supports and provides financial roadmap for SRM’s strategic plans. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Effectively leads coordination and integration of efforts among the finance department, including the design of an accounting and financial reporting structure adequate for achieving the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the financial operations of Springs Rescue Mission and affiliates including financial statement preparation and reporting, budget planning, monitoring cash flow, developing and maintaining best practices, internal controls, and regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings. 
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit and uniform guidance audit.
  • Partner with external tax partner in development of annual 990
  • Reviews, analyses, and evaluates business operations procedures.
  • Establishes quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated.
  • Continuously works toward establishing and improving stakeholder satisfaction through policy and procedural development and process improvement changes.
  • Support development, implementation, and improvement of organizational policies and strategies.
  • Ensures the organization’s financial risk management policies, insurance limit coverages, and strategies follow applicable regulations, rating agency standards, and strategic imperatives of the organization.
  • Develop strong relationships with cross-functional teams and departments. 
  • Create financial and risk management models for process improvement and operational evaluations. 
  • Calculates variances from the budget and reports significant issues to management 
  • Provides financial analyses as needed or requested 
  •  Attends all required meetings and reviews SRM emails regularly.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance or related degree required.
  • Master’s degree, business administration (Preferred).
  • CPA or CMA certification (Preferred).
  • Minimum 5-7 years of related operations, risk management and financial experience with an increasing amount of responsibility.
  • Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience.
  • Non-profit accounting & financial reporting experience.

  • Serves as an advocate for the homeless and raising awareness of the needs and concern for the addicted, and those in poverty; engaging others within one’s influence of greater involvement and effectiveness on behalf of this population in Colorado Springs.  
  • Believes that volunteers are vital to accomplishing the Vision and Mission of Springs Rescue Mission and thus is part of mobilizing the community in the fight against addiction, poverty and homelessness  
  • Highly developed communications, collaborator, change agent, strategic, creative financial management skills, and the ability to drive performance from all areas within Springs Rescue Mission.
  • Exceptional leadership and time, task, and resource management skills.
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, coaching, interpersonal, presentation, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with information technology, human resources, risk management, programs, advancement, and internal/external customer service procedures.
  • Ability to effectively plan, track and monitor multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Exceptional degree of accuracy, detail orientation, and organization.
  • High initiative, seeking continuous process improvement, actively engaging in problem solving.
  • Excellent planning, analyses, prioritizing, decision-making, and implementation skills with a high level of computer literacy and personal responsibility.
  • Experience working with external auditors on annual and uniform guidance audits
  • Administrator experience with Sage Intacct or other similar ERP system 


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS: 

Occasionally = 1%-33%; frequently = 34%-66%; continuously = 67%-100%.  

 Typical office working environment. 

 Occasionally: must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, bend or stretch 

Frequently: walking, talking, climbing stairs, manual dexterity 

Continuously: sitting, standing, adequate vision and hearing, good mental condition to withstand consistently medium to high levels of stress

Salary & benefits include the following: $92,000 - $98,000 annually.  This position is classified as Exempt.

  •  Medical coverage with Spring’s Rescue Mission covering 80% of the employee premium on base medical plan.

  • Initial PTO is accrued at a rate of 0.080700 per hour worked, per pay period, with a max balance of 168 hours per year with 50% of max balance able to roll over at the end of the year (84 hours), with 16 hours “pre-loaded” during the first two months (8 hours per month) of employment during the first year of employment.
