Position Summary:
The Director of Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing all operational functions within a manufacturing company of approximately 100 employees. This role oversees production, warehouse operations, inventory management, shipping, receiving, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.
The Director of Operations will provide strategic leadership while maintaining hands-on involvement in daily operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive manufacturing leadership experience, including at least three (3) years serving as a Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Direct and oversee all manufacturing, warehouse, shipping, receiving, and inventory control activities.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that support company growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, productivity, inventory accuracy, on-time delivery, and labor efficiency.
- Lead department managers and supervisors to ensure alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Production Management
- Ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining quality standards and cost targets.
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks within manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Sales teams to support customer requirements.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Monitor equipment utilization, workforce efficiency, and production capacity planning.
Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Oversee warehouse operations, material handling, receiving, storage, and inventory control.
- Ensure inventory accuracy through cycle counts and inventory management best practices.
- Develop processes that improve material flow and reduce inventory carrying costs.
- Maintain organized, safe, and efficient warehouse operations.
Shipping & Logistics
- Manage shipping and distribution activities to ensure on-time customer deliveries.
- Develop relationships with carriers and logistics providers to optimize freight costs and service levels.
- Monitor shipping metrics and implement improvements in packaging, transportation, and delivery performance.
- Ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping and receiving regulations when applicable.
Financial & Strategic Management
- Develop and manage operational budgets.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising safety or quality.
- Participate in strategic planning and organizational growth initiatives.
- Analyze operational data and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a culture of workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, quality, and company standards.
- Lead investigations and corrective actions for safety incidents and operational issues.
- Maintain adherence to customer and industry-specific requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate managers, supervisors, and operational personnel.
- Foster employee engagement and professional development.
- Build succession plans for key operational positions.
- Lead cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in operations management, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Director of Operations in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
- Experience in the areas of process automation, material flow, manufacturing cost reduction, quality improvement programs and safety management.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing production, engineering, quality, conversion, supply chain and distribution experience preferred. Deep knowledge of contemporary tools, manufacturing processes, warehouse and shipping best practices.
- Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and operational performance metrics.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
· Working knowledge and hands-on experience with PLEX Manufacturing ERP.

Physical Requirements
