JOB SUMMARY

This role is a Supervisory and a Laboratory technical role. A high degree of technical proficiency in multiple disciplines is required. A strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, a desire to enable business success, and resilience to manage continual pressure and changing priorities are essential to the role. Special attention required to coordinate the work content and timing of multiple individuals to meet internal and external customer satisfaction.

Technical Job Requirements:

  • Provide investigative Analytical services directly enabling new business opportunities for UBE Urethanes USA, LLC and Service Level Agreement execution for External parties. 
  • Troubleshooting manufacturing problems for multiple businesses.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Analytical testing EHS Support for ECHA/REACH and other agencies. 
  • Transformation of Analytical cost structure from hourly based to test/service-based entity.

Compliance Job Requirements:

  • Hazardous Waste Management
  • Annual RCRA training required for compliance
  • Managing waste generated in the laboratory: storage, labeling, accumulation area requirements
  • Emergency response training
  • Laboratory Spill Kit Training

A. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemistry
  • 15+ Years of required laboratory experience, Analytical Chemistry
  • 5 Year supervisory experience (this position will be required to coordinate the workflow and cross-training of approximately 6 individual contributors.
  • Practical knowledge of Chromatography (Gas, Liquid, GPC, IC)
  • Practical knowledge of Mass Spectrometry
  • Practical knowledge of Classical Chemistry / Method development
  • Practical knowledge of ICP, Metals analysis
  • Practical knowledge of Thermal Analysis (TGA, DSC)
  • Practical knowledge of Mass Spectrometry
  • Experience working with relevant tools
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills for staff guidance
  • Strong communication skills, customer focused
  • Safety experience / focus preferred
  • Practical computer literacy

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications not required
  • Ph.D. or equivalent level of education in Chemistry: Analytical, Organic, Inorganic, Physical
  • Relevant tools/skills but not a necessity
  • Previous RCRA Compliance training and experience a plus

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs / Liquid Nitrogen & Helium fill operations
  • Ability to stand for 30 minutes

While performing the duties of the job, the staff member is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The staff member is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to pick-up, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The staff member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The position requires vision abilities such as close vision and the ability to adjust focus. 


The noise level in the work environment (open plan office) is usually moderate. The staff member may be required to travel for business and needs to have a valid driver’s license as well as being able to fly with well-known airlines. The staff member needs to be ready to work beyond normal business hours when occasionally being necessary.
