Description

LOCATION: Juvenile Detention Facility - Detroit, MI 48211


SUMMARY: SEMHA is seeking for a Physician who would provide coordinated quality medical care to adolescent patients at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete comprehensive physical examinations of adolescents to assess health conditions and identify medical needs.
  • Management of chronic conditions including diabetes mellitus (type 1 and 2), asthma, seizure disorder, asthma, anemia, and basic mental health disorders.
  • Assess and manage acute conditions including trauma/injury, laceration, head injuries, and respiratory infection.
  • Basic procedural skills including laceration repair, I and D, basic wound management, basic trauma management.
  • Perform male/female sensitive examinations with appropriate follow-up.
  • Complete Child Protective Service examinations for reported abuse and neglect.
  • Coordinate with parents for medical management as appropriate.
  • Able to create and manage treatment plans including hospital/specialist follow-ups for acute and chronic conditions if indicated.
  • Able to provide guidance to patients regarding healthy habits and preventative strategies to promote good health including diet, activity, and STI’s.
  • Prescribe medications and instructions for appropriate administration.
  • Order and interpret lab/imaging results to guide and create appropriate treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with other services including behavioral health, nursing, security, and social work.
  • Thoroughly document patient interactions and treatment plans in EMR system.
  • Collaborate with patient's primary care and specialist physician when appropriate for continuity of care.
  • On-call medical services to provide care for a 24-hour facility at the discretion of the Medical Director. 
  • Complete examinations and plans within facility and state licensing regulations.
  • Discharge planning for residents including medication dispensing.
  • On-site medical support for nursing staff, mid-level providers, social work, operations, and ancillary staff.

EDUCATION & EXPRENCE:

  • Active Michigan Medical License
  • DEA Registration, and Drug Control License
  • Board certified in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine. 
  • BLS Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing and working on a computer.
  • Walking to different floors/clinic sites throughout the facility.
  • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (Examples)

  • Responsibility for maintaining records, reports, deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills with ability to navigate EMR.
  • Responsibility of knowing how office machine/equipment must be operated.
  • Physical demands/emotional demands and any other demands usual or unusual.

  

Salary: $230,000.000 annually
