POSITION: Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

PAY RATE: $45,000 annually / Exempt

Job Summary
The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher works as part of a team made up of the VP of Programs, Early Learning, Child Development and Education Director, Group Supervisors, Assistant Group Supervisors, Aides, Cook and clerical staff. She/he ensures the coordination of quality program (PA Pre-K Counts, NAEYC and OCDEL requirements for accreditation) for 3 to 5-year-old children in the Children and Youth Development and Education Department. This is a 10-month position.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist Director in completing requirements for accreditation including coordination of surveys.
- Ensure that all staff learn and follow standards and requirements.
- Keep Director informed of decisions made.
- Maintain ratios and room capacities.
- Communicate with parents.
- Inform Director when a parent must be contacted regarding any serious matter.
- Work with Director on goal area after the completion of the ECERS evaluation of program.
- Implement the current curriculum with demonstrated progress in producing and implementing the curriculum.
- Plan and execute appropriate activities for the children each day and assist teachers to complete weekly activity plans and safe, child-centered environments.
- Monitor and file weekly lesson plans, making corrections as necessary and giving them to the Director.
- Ensure each group is participating in developmentally appropriate activities.
- Observe and evaluate each child’s progress and provide written reports to the Director.
- Maintain compliance with standard DHS health and safety regulations.
- Show progress towards learning and implementing DHS Certification guidelines.
- Supervise Assistant Group Supervisors, aides, and volunteers in the assigned group area; works cooperatively with all other staff.
- Attend staff and parent meetings.
- Complete all required reports in a timely fashion.
- Administer medications in accordance with DHS regulations and Association policy.
- Ensure children’s safety by observing and executing preventative measures.
- Maintain high levels of consumer satisfaction.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, vendor, employee, and contract information.
- Effectively deal with sensitive information and occurrences.
- Display consistent professionalism and courtesy when interacting with internal and external customers.
- Promote and support the mission, imperative, values and goals of YWCA GP maintaining high performance standards.
- Participate in YWCA GP professional development opportunities successfully implementing new skills, knowledge, and procedures.
- Perform other such duties assigned within the scope of the Department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and PreK-4 certification from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or child development. OR
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or child development with proof of teacher plan to achieve PreK-4 certification.
- Act 33/34 clearances, fingerprinting, National Sex Offender Registry Clearance, and criminal background checks as well as Mandated Reporter.
Desired Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of PA Early Learning Standards, PA Keystone Stars, NAEYC standards and requirements.
