Systems Engineer
Fully Remote
Description

TransForce is looking for a motivated Tier 2 Systems Engineer to join our IT team. In this role you will own the reliability, security, and day-to-day performance of our core infrastructure — from cloud platforms and endpoint management to networking and identity. You will partner closely with colleagues across the organization to deliver solutions that keep our workforce moving.

This is a hands-on technical role with meaningful scope: you will troubleshoot complex issues, drive process improvements, build documentation, and help shape how technology supports TransForce operations.

What You’ll Do

Systems & Infrastructure

– Deploy, configure, and manage physical and virtual systems including servers, endpoints, and cloud resources across Microsoft Azure and AWS.

– Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), and related identity and collaboration services.

– Maintain Windows Server environments including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.

– Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, and maintenance windows with minimal disruption to operations.

Networking & Security

– Design, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN, wireless, and VPN environments; configure firewalls, routers, switches, and access points.

– Enforce security best practices across systems and networks; apply the principle of least privilege and monitor for anomalies.

– Contribute to compliance initiatives by maintaining accurate system records and supporting audit activities.

Support & Collaboration

– Serve as Tier 2 escalation point — diagnose and resolve complex incidents, own issues through to resolution, and communicate status clearly.

– Onboard users to new systems and tools; develop training materials and SOPs that enable self-service and reduce repeat incidents.

– Partner with project managers, subject matter experts, and senior leadership to scope and deliver technology initiatives on time.

– Manage vendor relationships and coordinate with third-party providers to maintain service quality and SLA compliance.

– Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical system availability: respond to after hours alerts and incidents in accordance with defined SLA and escalation procedures.

– Occasional support outside of normal business hours may be required for planned maintenance windows, system upgrades, or time sensitive incidents.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

– Keep ITSM systems, asset inventories, and knowledge-base articles current and accurate.

– Identify gaps in tooling, process, or capacity and bring actionable recommendations to the team.

– Track and communicate project progress, risks, and issues proactively.

Requirements

Required

– 3+ years of systems engineering or advanced helpdesk experience in a virtualized, enterprise environment.

– Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, and Entra ID administration.

– Experience administering Microsoft Intune for endpoint management, device compliance, application deployment, and policy enforcement.

– Solid working knowledge of Windows and macOS environments, Active Directory, and Windows Server.

– Proven networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, firewalls, and wireless technologies.

– Strong troubleshooting instincts — you gather data, form a hypothesis, test, and document.

– Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting status to technical and non-technical audiences.

– Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver consistently in a fast-moving environment.

– Heightened sense of urgency and resolve; ability to act as a change agent and drive results in a dynamic environment.

– Demonstrated ability to support multiple concurrent initiatives without sacrificing quality or deadlines.

– Demonstrated experience delivering complex technology projects within a large or global organization.

– Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to root-cause analysis.

– Outstanding organizational and time-management skills; able to self-direct and meet commitments in a complex, fast-paced setting.

– In-depth understanding of diverse computer systems, networks, and IT architecture across hybrid environments.

Preferred

– Experience with next-generation firewalls (e.g., Cisco Meraki) and SD-WAN.

– Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM frameworks and service management platforms.

– Exposure to automation or scripting (PowerShell) for routine task reduction.

– AWS or Azure certifications (AZ-104, AWS SysOps, or similar).

– Background in IT Managed Service, logistics, transportation, or distributed workforce environments.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience. Relevant certifications (Microsoft, AWS, CompTIA, Cisco) are a plus.

Team Expectations

– Uphold TransForce policies and values, representing the IT department with professionalism.

– Actively seek out learning opportunities and stay current with emerging technologies relevant to our stack.

– Contribute to a collaborative, respectful team culture — share knowledge, ask questions, and support your colleagues.
