BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Counselor is responsible for developing treatment-related goals on individualized education program (IEP) and providing trauma-informed counseling services to students at Hammitt School on Willow. Also provides consultation and crisis response to assist employees in their interventions with students and facilitates training and support for parents. Demonstrates an ability to apply trauma-informed principles and integrates them into daily practice. Communicates effectively and promotes collaborative problem solving by demonstrating care and respect in considering the diverse experiences and perspectives of others.


HOURS: Mon-Fri , school day schedule generally 8a -3:30p (2:30p during summer school), 37.5 hrs/week + following the clinical school calendar, paid over applicable breaks per schedule

WORK LOCATION: Hammitt School on Willow, 108 E. Willow, Normal, Illinois

PAY: $3,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates, $53,000 - $63,000/year based on experience and certifications


SUMMARY:

1. Assessment and Treatment Planning: Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of students. Develops goals and objectives with each student in accordance with the student’s IEP. 

2. Counseling: Provides individual, family, and group counseling in accordance with each student’s IEP.

3. Case Management: Provides case management, mentoring, advocacy, support, and education that will protect children and preserve families.

4. Crisis prevention and intervention: Provides consultation and support to students, parents, and school employees to assist with crisis prevention and intervention. Provides direct crisis intervention to students as needed.

5. Parent Education and Support: Provides education and support services to parents of Hammitt students.

8. Community Relations: Represents the agency in a positive light to active and prospective students, referral and funding sources, and the general public. Utilizes community contacts to advocate for students.

Requirements

 

1. Master’s degree in social work, psychology, guidance and counseling, or related field required.  

2. Professional licensure through ISBE or the Department of Professional Regulation required. School Social Worker licensure preferred.

3. Knowledge of and skills necessary to apply the principles of adolescent mental health treatment and special education to students.

4. Demonstrated competence in providing mental health services to adolescents with severe emotional and behavioral disorders and supportive services to the parents of adolescents.

5. Willingness to work evening and weekend hours when necessary.

6. Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.

7. Must pass necessary background checks.

8. Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities, including a valid Illinois driver’s license, which has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.

9. Ability to work cooperatively with staff within The Baby Fold, as well as with necessary collateral contacts.

10. Mission oriented and willing to apply The Baby Fold’s standards and beliefs to the performance of job duties.
