Description

The Habilitation Services Assistant provides administrative support and assistance to the Habilitation Services Department. The Assistant may provide support to other professionals within the department and may have intermittent direct and indirect contact with clients. The Habilitation Services Assistant provides both clinical and clerical support as required by Verland. This may include transporting individuals as necessary in a safe, comfortable, courteous, timely, and professional manner. The Habilitation Services Assistant may conduct programs that are established by the licensed clinical staff to maintain such skills related, but not limited to: active and passive range of motion, mobility and ambulation, positioning, communication, recreation, self-care, and behavior. This is an hourly, nonexempt position. 

 

Shift Available:

Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm


Contributions:  

  • Schedules and organizes wheelchair clinics, orthotic clinics, and physiatry clinics including maintaining updated lists of clients who need to be seen.
  • Orders adaptive equipment including shoes and wheelchairs, and maintains contact with the company until received.
  • Provides training/in-service orientation to designated staff regarding proper lifting techniques, positioning, body mechanics, orthotic equipment, splints, transporting techniques, adaptive equipment, safety procedures and other pertinent training as identified by the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Completes all necessary documentation and participates in required meetings for individuals by presenting therapy discipline information, as requested.
  • Monitors and assists with mealtime programs in the Adult Training Facility (ATF) and/or residences to ensure proper positioning techniques and procedures are adhered to by designated staff. 
  • Orders, distributes, monitors, and manages the individuals’ adaptive equipment for defects and/or other concerns. 
  • Provides and supports client care delivery in accordance with established practice standards and facility/departmental/regulatory policies and procedures for clinical setting and populations served. 
  • Assists the Adaptive Equipment Specialist with alterations and/or repairs to adaptive equipment. 
  • Maintains therapy department in a clean and orderly condition. Cleans equipment and care areas per approved standards. 
  • Communicates effectively, consistently, and in a timely fashion with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team. 
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms in order to present ideas, programs, and progress reports concerning individuals to staff, parents, and other departments. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact well with all departments is essential. 
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize workload.
  • Able to transfer clients, lift weights, transport clients, and assist with treatment on the mat or during ambulation, exercise, and activities. 


Minimum Training and Experience: 

  • Two or more years’ experience in rehabilitation, working alongside licensed clinical professionals, is preferred. 
  • Completion of a Restorative or Rehabilitation Nurse Training Program is preferred. 
  • High School Diploma or GED is required. 
  • Requires CPR and Basic Life Support certification through AHA within six (6) months of hire. 
  • Requires familiarity with Windows operating systems, email communication, word processing, and spreadsheet software. 
  • On-the-job training is provided by the licensed clinical staff including, but not limited to, the Physical, Speech, and Occupational Therapists, and the Habilitation Services Manager on various treatment techniques and interdepartmental methods and procedures. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and all required clearances.
