Position Title: Assistant Golf Professional

Department: Golf Admin 

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Directly Reports To: Director of Golf 

Indirectly Reports To: Assistant Head Golf Professional


ABOUT THE POSITION

The Assistant Golf Professional supports the daily operation of the Golf Department while delivering exceptional service to members and guests. This role is primarily focused on golf operations, tournament execution, merchandising, member engagement, and staff support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, service-oriented, and passionate about creating a first-class golf experience in a private club environment.


The Assistant Golf Professional serves as an ambassador of the Club, consistently demonstrating professionalism, hospitality, and a commitment to excellence.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide golf lessons and coaching to members and guests, ranging from beginners to advanced players.
  • Organize and lead clinics, group lessons, and private instruction sessions.
  • Continuously improve and expand your own golf knowledge and teaching skills.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the pro shop, including inventory, stocking, and sales.
  • Provide excellent customer service, assisting golfers with equipment purchases, tee times, and course information.
  • Ensure the pro shop is well-maintained, clean, and organized.
  •  Assist in planning, organizing, and coordinating golf tournaments, events, and leagues.
  • Manage registration, tee-time assignments, scoring, and results for golf events.
  • Promote and participate in club events to enhance member engagement.
  • Assist in daily golf course operations, including managing pace of play, starting groups, and ensuring a smooth golfing experience.
  • Monitor course conditions and playability, recommending maintenance or adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in marshaling the course and players, ensuring safe play and managing pace of play. 
  • Build positive relationships with members and guests, addressing their needs and providing an exceptional golfing experience.
  • Handle inquiries, bookings, and reservations with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head Golf Professional, Buying and Merchandising Manager, and Director of Golf that reasonably falls within the scope of the position and department.


Requirements

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong golf playing skills and a deep understanding of the game.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer-focused attitude and a passion for golf.
  • Proficiency in golf software and point-of-sale systems.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors and adapt to various weather conditions.
  • Valid CA driver's license and a clean driving record, required.
  • Discretion and confidentiality regarding members, guests, and all Riviera operations and events.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and demanding schedules.
  • Professionalism, poise, and a positive attitude, even in high-pressure situations.
  • Knowledge of the country club industry or hospitality sector (preferred, not required).

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • PGA membership or enrollment in a PGA/PGM program required.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience in golf instruction and pro shop operations.

GROOMING

All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per club standards. 

Must wear Riviera-branded professional golf apparel.  

OTHER

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the club. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
