Role and Responsibilities 

The  Controller actively supports the growth of the company. Our ideal candidate understands the basics of how site contracting works, what is needed, and how to deliver on it. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the President/CFO and should be experienced in all aspects of financial management, financial reporting, cost analysis and forecasting, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.  

  • Assist CFO with monthly closing, inventory review, balance sheet recons and monthly financial preparation and reporting 
  • Cash analysis, accounts payable review and bank reconciliation  
  • Work with Project managers to ensure accurate invoicing on large projects and invoice review as needed 
  • Review payroll and online timesheets for job costing and accuracy  
  • Assist the CFO with management and execution of all accounting operations 
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and credit card reporting 
  • Assist with cost analysis, management, and reporting 
  • Understand and help improve pricing and customer service while ensuring high-quality 
  •  Contract / Change Order processing 
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. 
  • Review and Complete pre-qualifications & CCIP/OCIP forms  
  • Assist with completion of lien waivers, and VDOT forms as required 
  • Manage and comply with state licensing requirements 
  • Work on ad hoc reports for management 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting  

Experience in the Construction industry 

Experience in Quickbooks and payroll processing and service platforms such as ServiceFusion and Expensify 

 


Requirements


  • Highly responsive and able to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures 
  • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year end close process 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • A go-getter with strong leadership, organizational skills, and sales capabilities 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Valid driver’s license
