Small Parts Gel Coater

The Small Parts Gel Coat reports to the Supervisor.

Responsible for preparing molds and applying gel coats to fiberglass boats according to production specifications and quality standards. 

This position embodies and champions the core values, standards, and guiding philosophies of Nautique Boat Company, ensuring their   consistent application across all duties and organizational initiatives.

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Essential Functions

 

1. Spray gelcoat according to production specifications, ensuring proper film thickness (mil thickness) and color application based on work orders. 

2. Read and interpret production orders to determine the correct gelcoat color and application requirements. 

3. Apply hull and deck identification numbers   in the designated locations. 

4. Stock and maintain gelcoat materials and   supplies. 

5. Clean and maintain spray equipment, filters, and pumps at required intervals. 

6. Tape, wrap, and prepare molds for gelcoat   application. 

7. Identify the various gelcoat applications   required. 

8. Inspect completed parts to ensure they meet   quality standards and production specifications. 

9. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work   area. 

10. Follow all instructions provided by the   Supervisor, Foreman, or Team Lead. 

11. Work effectively as part of a team to   complete daily production goals. 

12. Safely use small hand tools, including   scissors, utility knives, razors, and similar tools. 

13. Wear required personal protective equipment  (PPE), including a full-face respirator, while performing assigned duties. 

14. Perform other related duties as assigned by   management.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

Formal Education:


High School Diploma or GED   required.

 

Work Experience:


1 years to < 2 years of related   experience in maintenance or related field

 

Decision Making:


Basic: Ongoing supervision is provided on a regular basis. Desired results are clearly defined; however, some independent judgment is necessary to select and apply the most   appropriate procedures to achieve those results.

 

Problem Solving:


Problems are generally standard/routine in   nature. Answers are usually found by selecting from specific choices defined in standard work policies or   procedures.

 

Responsibility for Directing Others:


Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others 

 

Planning Level:


Daily: Seldom plan beyond the current day.

Requires regular contact within the department and   ongoing contact with other departments, supplying, or gathering information.

 

External Contacts:


External communication with others is minimal. Requires ordinary tact and   courtesy.

 

Job-Related Knowledge:


Basic Employment Skills: Requires basic skills to   understand instructions and

perform simple, routine tasks. Required proficiency   in the use of basic hand tools

and equipment, with knowledge of quality control   processes and safe forklift

operation.

 

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:


Must be a licensed driver with a safe   driving record, subject to MVR.

 

Special Skills:


Ability to work effectively individually or   with a team, perform tasks under time-pressure deadlines, communicate   work-related information clearly, and identify when work quality does not   meet expected standards.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Effort:


Non-climate-controlled   factory environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air   temperature, with exposure to weather conditions, moderate noise, fiberglass, dust, resin, and other designated factory-area conditions.

Standing, bending   at the waist and knees, repetitive arm, hand, and shoulder movements, and   climbing into and out of boat interiors for extended periods.

Fine motor skills and visual acuity   required for multiple tasks, including use of hand tools (grinder, scraper, gel gun, razor knife, blower, etc.)

equipment and the   ability to see and identify small quality defects.

Ability to lift 50   pounds when necessary.

Requires proper safety equipment, including   safety glasses, half-mask respirator, Tyvek protection suit, and other PPE as   required.
