The mission of the Allentown Parking Authority is to operate, monitor, and maintain convenient and accessible parking facilities and on-street parking opportunities within the City of Allentown. The Allentown Parking Authority works to balance the parking needs of residents, employees, business and property owners, and visitors while enforcing parking ordinances and providing appropriate access to parking.
The Fleet Mechanic is an Essential Employee who ensures the safety, functionality, and efficiency of the Allentown Parking Authority’s fleet by performing regular maintenance, diagnostics, and minor repairs. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime and maintaining compliance with safety standards. This role involves preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, State Safety inspections, and keeping accurate maintenance records. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced with a variety of vehicles and equipment. The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Manager/Supervisor of Maintenance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform routine maintenance on fleet vehicles including oil changes, tire rotations and/or changes, fluid checks, brake inspections, and tune-ups.
- Replace and service belts, hoses, windshield wipers, lights, and other consumables.
- Conduct system flushes (coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc.) as required. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems and perform repairs as needed.
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure all vehicles comply with DOT, and company safety standards.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Enforcement & Management to identify vehicle issues and schedule maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Investigate vehicle operator complaints and perform necessary inspections and repairs.
- Conduct test drives to verify repairs and ensure vehicle safety and performance.
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, service schedules and parts inventory using maintenance software or logs.
- Respond to emergency roadside service calls and coordinate towing when required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
- Ensure proper functioning of shop tools and request repairs or replacements as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels of tools and supplies; initiate reorders as necessary.
- Stay current on industry best practices, equipment technology, and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for front line snow removal operations
- Safely operate and maintain snow removal equipment, including plows, snow blowers, and salt spreaders
- Maintain and service snow removal equipment to ensure it is in good working order
- At times may be required to perform general maintenance duties
- Perform all other duties as assigned

- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification ASE required.
- 3+ years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair (diesel, gas, and light to heavy-duty trucks preferred).
- Strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, electrical systems, and brake systems.
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Proficient in general office and computer applications i.e. (Microsoft Office 360)
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and record in compliance with requirements established by the company’s auto insurance provider
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy parts and equipment (up to 100 lbs) and Push (up to 200 lbs).
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call as needed.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions
- Availability during all snowstorms to work up to 16 hours of labor-intensive work
- Employee is an Essential Employee and is required to report to work and work outside in all weather conditions
