WCMY 1430 and WRKX 95.3 JackFM in Ottawa, Illinois, has an immediate opening in its News Department for a Reporter/Anchor. This is an entry level position in an Award Winning newsroom that has a decades-long history of Broadcast Journalism excellence. While enjoying the lifestyle in a picturesque and dynamic community 80 miles from the Chicago lakeshore, you will work with an experienced and dedicated team that is focused on the NRG Media mission of “Great Local Radio”. Your duties will include developing and maintaining relationships with newsmakers and community leaders, anchoring newscasts as well as field reporting, covering meetings and events, filing stories for broadcast and website posting, and social media interaction with listeners and website visitors. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be knowledgeable in local community and national events.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write news reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
This is an entry level position for general assignment work: covering city council and school board meetings, police and court, and other happenings in a small market. Job Assignment hours may include working some nights, weekends, and early mornings
Ability to possess good telephone and communication skills, and operate a digital editor and other broadcast audio equipment. Ability to operate a computer for general office functionality. Frequent interaction with the local community and employees. Ability to think and process information on the spot during live broadcasts. Ability to deal with a high level of stress because of the deadlines and live in-field reporting. The employee must occasionally work long hours during breaking news events.
