Maintenance Worker
Description

 Summary:

Responsible for the effective, efficient and safe maintenance, renovation and upkeep of parish buildings and grounds. 


Position Responsibilities:

Maintenance:

  • *Will at times be working at any of two parish properties in a team effort with the rest of maintenance personnel at the Main Campus, the Annex Property and Parish Cemetery
  • *Provide prompt response to requests and issues
  • *Performs basic carpentry, drywall, painting, plumbing and electrical 
  • *Completes promptly Work Order Forms submitted to maintenance personnel
  • *Performs repairs or maintenance on incoming work orders to ensure that it is properly and promptly completed.
  • *Responsible for implementing a preventive schedule for key systems and seasonal tasks to protect parish investments. For      example, HVAC, flush the water heater annually to remove sediments, test smoke detectors, check fire extinguisher expiration dates, clean out gutters, etc.)

Hall

  • *Responsible for setting up and organization of campus hall and Annex meeting rooms
  • *Assists in the quarterly parish clean up volunteer opportunities

Grounds

• *Keeps parish grounds neat and presentable (i.e. regular mowing, leaf blowing and trash pick-up, tree care, hardscape, maintenance of property flowerbeds, plants, and grass, etc.) and general landscape maintenance tasks

• *Responsible for safe and efficient use of heavy and light equipment, machinery and hand tools including mowers, trimming equipment, pressure washers, etc.

• *Responsible for safely using chemicals

• Maintenance of property flowerbeds, plants, and grass areas

• Perform tree care, hardscape, and general landscape maintenance tasks.

- Dig and plant trees, shrubs, and flowers.

- Mow and edge lawns to maintain a neat appearance.

- Utilize hand tools and power tools for landscaping projects.

- Demonstrate mechanical knowledge for equipment operation.

Safety and Knowledge:

  • *Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and industry codes
  • *Keeping the shop organized and in good working order.
  • *Performs/arranges (monthly, quarterly or annually as applicable) routine equipment preventive maintenance checks and/or notify the facility manager when equipment needs to be replaced
  • *Respond to facility alarms, alerts and system failures and reports to supervisor. 
  • *Maintains the current level of knowledge and skills required to perform the job.  Attend workshops and classes on as needed basis. Maintains membership/affiliation with appropriate professional organizations
  • *Helps with development and implementation of procedures to address problems that  arise within the facilities, consistent with parish and Diocese guidelines 

Other Responsibilities:

· Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, and others. 

· Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.

· Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

· Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization. 

· Any other duties assigned by priest or parochial vicar.

Requirements

  Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent or higher
  • Experience
    • Minimum   3 years’ experience in building and equipment maintenance and report; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • License and Credentials
    • Reliable transportation
    • Valid driver license
    • Valid vehicle insurance

· Minimum Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: 

  • Ability to communicate with various levels of staff
  • Ability to safety work with ladders, equipment and chemicals
  • Ability to work in heights and close quarters
  • Good eye-hand coordination and flexibility
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include assisting with gatherings and events on evenings and weekends.
  • Complete a safe environment course and pass criminal background check
  • Ability to resolve and reduce conflict.
