The Universal Worker is responsible for providing quality care and services to residents while assisting with daily operations throughout the community. This position combines caregiver duties with housekeeping, dining, laundry, and resident support responsibilities to ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
Resident Care
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Grooming
- Toileting
- Ambulation and transfers
- Observe residents and report changes in condition to the supervisor.
- Respond promptly to resident call systems and requests for assistance.
- Assist residents with meals and hydration as needed.
- Encourage resident independence while maintaining safety and dignity.
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
Dining Services
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to facility standards.
- Assist residents during mealtimes.
- Set up and clean dining areas.
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Wash dishes and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
Housekeeping and Laundry
- Clean resident apartments/rooms and common areas.
- Perform routine housekeeping duties including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing.
- Collect, wash, fold, and distribute resident laundry and linens.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and pleasant living environment.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Comply with state regulations and infection control practices.
- Report accidents, incidents, hazards, or resident concerns immediately.
- Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
- Participate in emergency preparedness procedures and drills.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with all departments.
- Maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and coworkers.
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and excellent customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School diploma or equivalent, required
· Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician. The tests are to be completed with results within seven (7) days after hire, unless regulations stipulate completion before employment. If the exams are not completed within this timeframe, the employee will be placed on suspension until they are completed.
· The Department of Social Services (DSS) licensing agency requires that LiveScan (fingerprinting) be completed on criminal convictions and be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The DDS will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. Approval must be obtained in order to retain employment.
· All employees are required to complete a drug screening
· All employees must keep their FIRST-AID certification current
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: The Universal Worker is expected to perform all duties in a manner that promotes resident dignity, independence, safety, and quality of life while supporting the mission and values of the community.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in a senior living community, including Assisted Living and Memory Care environments.
- Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, cleaning products, and kitchen equipment.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts based on operational needs.
