Position Purpose

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) is seeking a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Programs & Impact to lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of high-impact programs across our organization. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring that BGCSF's programs are fun and engaging, innovative, and effectively meet the evolving needs of San Francisco's youth. The VP of Programs & Impact will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of youth development at BGCSF, driving continuous improvement and demonstrating measurable impact. 

The VP of Programs & Impact is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and alignment on the programs and services at eight standalone Clubhouses and six School-Based Clubs. They will collaborate and communicate extensively with teams on both the Administrative and Club & Program Services sides of the organization. The VP of Programs & Impact must support the Senior VP of Club Services in maintaining strong alignment and meet the evolving needs of the Clubs. They are responsible for leading a high-functioning team, managing Program Services, Outcomes Measurement, and Program Quality Improvement. This position must also interface with Camp Mendocino, ensuring Camp’s programs achieve impact goals and stay aligned with BGCSF’s overall program focus.


This is an in-person, full-time position at our John N. Callander Administrative Office. 


Key Responsibilities

Program Planning, Assessment & Continuous Improvement - 40%

  • Oversee effective program planning throughout the year that includes curriculum development, setting program goals with measurable outcomes, and evaluation and reporting
  • Routinely visit Clubs and attend events to engage with staff and understand programming needs, as well as the extent to which program standards are being upheld
  • Actively set up processes and systems that strengthen Club & Program Services
  • Partner with the SVP of Club Services to create innovative program strategies and action plans that support each Club in improving the Club experience for members and driving high participation
  • Stay up-to-date on current trends, research, and best practices in youth development, education, and socioemotional development to inform program design
  • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement by consistently using data, pulse checks, program observations, etc. to inform actionable changes to systems, structures and programs
  • Collaborate with Club & Site leadership to identify staff training needs and lead the Program Quality Improvement team to cultivate and grow internal BGCSF talent.
  • Regularly present relevant data findings to BGCSF’s leadership teams and the Board to drive data-informed decisions

Leadership & Management - 35%

  • Provide leadership and coaching, along with opportunities for growth and advancement, to all direct reports in the following departments: Citywide Services, Outcomes Measurement and Program Quality Improvement
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment that encourages innovation, professional growth, and accountability for results
  • Actively participate in the Senior Management Team meeting and team meetings with Club Services and Program Services, adding value through intellect, a strong depth of knowledge of current activity, and a firm understanding of the values and culture of BGCSF.
  • Play a key role in the execution of the organization’s strategic plan and mission through the effective leadership and management of the team
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for growth, improved program delivery, and organizational efficiency – recommend changes to the Strategic Plan when needed
  • Collaborate with Club Leadership to ensure effective program schedules are in place and program offerings available
  • Collaborate directly with the President and Chief Operating Officer, as needed, to achieve the best outcomes for BGCSF and the youth we serve.

Resource Management, Fundraising Support & Program Partnerships - 25%

  • Oversee the development and management of the Program Services and Evaluation & Impact budgets; monitor budgets on a monthly basis; collaborate with the Finance Team to troubleshoot issues or strategize on improvements
  • Ensure that all program budgets are consistent with the mission of BGCSF; ensure that the resources of BGCSF are managed and utilized to best serve Club members
  • Effectively partner with Development and Institutional Giving to engage donors, support the fulfillment of grant requirements, and serve as a thought partner on funding opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing & Communications to effectively communicate our impact story,  market our services to more/new youth, plus other audiences, and further strengthen our brand
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to develop staff Management By Objective goals (MBO) that align with organizational priorities
  • Work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to mutually advance our work, piloting programs, sharing best practices, collaborating on program evaluation (e.g. the Youth Impact Network), and MyClubHub issues/opportunities
  • Work with DCYF and other City agencies in an effort to best serve San Francisco youth, 
  • Build and/or maintain relationships with key program partners

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university mandatory
  • Six years of experience in a leadership capacity at a large, youth serving non-profit, with proven success in staff management, program delivery, and community relations - strongly prefer experience with an inner-city Boys & Girls Club or other community-based organization
  • Thorough knowledge of: the mission, objectives, and programs of Boys & Girls Clubs 
  • Clear understanding of how community-based organizations are funded, and experience working in partnership with resource development staff and funders 
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Leadership skills, including negotiation, problem solving, decision making, delegation
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels, community groups, City officials and other related agencies, and members of our Board of Governors
  • Strong technology skills, including G-Suite, Word and Excel, and Salesforce

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. 
  • Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively. 
  • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position.  The range for this position is 115-140k
