The refugee health team at CIRI is seeking a dedicated intern to support case managers in assisting refugees and other vulnerable immigrant populations. This unpaid internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in refugee resettlement, social services, and client advocacy.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist clients in understanding public benefits such as Social Security Insurance (SSI), Medicaid, and other available support programs.
  2. Help clients navigate the health care system by connecting them with medical providers, scheduling appointments, and arranging transportation if needed.
  3. Provide guidance on medical billing, insurance coverage, and payment assistance programs.
  4. Support case managers in tracking client progress and maintaining case notes.
  5. Conduct outreach to local health care providers and community resources.
  6. Assist in administrative tasks, including data entry and document preparation.
  7. Assist with arranging transportation, including driving clients to appointments 
  8. Prepare presentations for health groups for clients. 
  9. Attend or accompany case managers to client medical appointments, 

Qualifications

  1. Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Social Work, Public Health, International Relations, or a related field.
  2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to work with diverse populations in a culturally sensitive manner.
  4. Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  6. Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, French) is a plus.

Internship Details

  1. Commitment: Minimum of 8-15 hours per week for at least 10 weeks (flexible based on academic requirements).
  2. Location: Bridgeport, CT
  3. Supervision: Interns will receive direct supervision and mentorship from experienced case managers.
