The CFO is a hands-on financial leader responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day financial operations while driving strategic growth as the business scales from $35-100M in annual revenue with 100+ employees. The CFO also provides direct oversight of HR and IT, ensuring efficient operations, strong internal processes, and scalable systems.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Strategy
1. Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
2. Partner with the CEO/owner on business strategy and decision-making
3. Participate in the development of the corporation's plans and programs as a strategic partner.
4. Provide insight and recommendations for both short-term and long-term growth plans
5. Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights
6. Assess, evaluate and report on financial performance regarding long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts.
7. Oversee end-to-end M&A processes including financial analysis, valuation, and stakeholder coordination
Accounting & Operations
1. Oversee daily accounting functions (AP/AR, payroll, general ledger)
2. Supervise the job costing function to ensure production costs and variances are recorded properly.
3. Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs for the purpose of determining the accuracy of the standard cost.
4. Prepare monthly financial statements and dashboards
5. Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with basic accounting standards
Cash Flow & Cost Control
1. Actively manage cash flow, receivables, and payables
2. Monitor expenses and implement cost-control measures
3. Ensure sufficient liquidity for operations and growth
Risk & Compliance
1. Maintain internal controls and manage financial risks
2. Oversee tax filings, insurance, and regulatory requirements
3. Work directly with external accountants/auditors as needed
Human Resources Oversight
1. Oversee HR operations including hiring, onboarding, and payroll
2. Oversee All Company Training activities
3. Manage benefits, compensation, and employee policies
4. Support employee relations and compliance with labor laws
5. Help build a positive, productive company culture
Information Technology Oversight
1. Manage key business systems (accounting, payroll, CRM, etc.)
2. Oversee IT vendors and service providers
3. Ensure basic cybersecurity, backups, and system reliability
4. Recommend and implement technology improvements
Cross-Functional Leadership
1. Serve as a key operational leader across departments
2. Improve processes and drive efficiency throughout the business
3. Provide financial acumen training for leaders, managers, and supervisors to strengthen their business and financial decision-making capabilities.
4. Wear multiple hats and fill gaps where needed
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA/MBA a plus)
• 7–15 years of experience, with at least some in a small or mid-sized business
• Strong hands-on experience in accounting and financial management
• Experience overseeing HR and/or IT functions preferred
